S. LEBENBERG.
SUPPORT FOR TELEPHONE HEARING. TRUMPETS.
Patented July 22, 1890.
INVENTOR:
I i I ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT Orrlcr.
SIMON LEBENBERG, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
SUPPORT FOR TELEPHO NE HEARlNG-TRUMPETS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 432,883, dated J uly' 22, 1890.
Application filed March 31, 1890- fierial No. 346,113. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SIMON LEBENBERG, of Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia and Empire of Germany, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Holders for Telephone-Receivers, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact specification.
This invention relates to a support or holder for telephone-receivers; and its object is to provide a device which will enable the receiver to be used without being upheld by hand, and to be readily adjusted vertically or horizontally to any desired position in relation to the ear of the user, whereby the user may be enabled to make written memoranda of the messages received.
The invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts of the receiver-support, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are partial side elevations of the same, partly in section, showing two different forms of springs employed to clamp two differentforms of receivers; and Fig. 5 is a front elevation of the spring shownin Fig. 4.
Upon the wall of the room or building or upon the casing of the telephone are secured bearings a, which carry an arm I) in such a manner as to allow of the lateral movement thereof about the bearings as a center. Said arm 1) carries a second arm 0, which is so connected thereto at d as to be also capable of lateral movement about the pivot d as a center. Said arm 0 has formed at its outer end an eye a, in which is supported an upright f, adapted to be raised and lowered therein and adjusted at any height desired by means of a set-screw or by any other proper device.
At the upper end of the upright f is formeda collar f, to which is connected a coupling g by means of a screw=cap 7c, fitting upon a depending threaded extension h of said coupling and bearing against the collar on said upright, and to said coupling is also connected a horizontal arm lby means of a screw-cap like the one 70, fitting upon a horizontal threaded extension h of said coupling and bearing against a collar Z on the inner end of said arm.
The arm I is provided at its outer end with springs for clamping the receiver. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, the armZ has secured thereto vertical bow-sprin gs m, which clamp a vertical stem which carries at its upper end one form of receiver, and allow of its vertical adjustment as desired, while in Fig. 4 said arm is shown as having an eye at its oute'r end, in which is fitted the stem of a pair of vertical semicircular springs m, which embrace the body of a cylindrical receiver near its mouth.
The arms 1) o constitute a jointed bracket, and allow of the receiver being brought nearer to or farther from the ear of the listener, or of its being adjusted upon a writing-desk to which bearings like those shown in Figs. 1 and 2 may be attached. The upright f allows of the vertical adjustment of the receiver, while the connection of the arm I and said upright with the coupling g allows of the receiver being rotated in a vertical plane or swung in a horizontal plane, the connection thus being in effect a universal joint.
By the construction and arrangement described the receiver may be brought as close to the ear of the listener as desired, so that both of the latters hands may be free to make memoranda of the messages as received.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A holder for telephone-receivers, consisting of a horizontal jointed bracket mounted in vertical bearings on a fixed support, an upright movable vertically in the outer member of the bracket, and a horizontal arm provided at its outer end with vertical springclamps and connected by a universal joint to said upright, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a holder for telephone-receivers, the combination, with a horizontal jointed bracket mounted in vertical bearings on a'fixed support, of an upright movable vertically in the outer member of said bracket, a horizontal arm carrying vertical spring-clamps at its outer end, and a coupling-joint having oppositely-extending threaded extensions connect ing said horizontal arm and the upright, substantially as shownand described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
SIMON LEBENBERG.
