Description
R. I. TURGK.
SASH FAS ENBR No. 432,004. l Patented July 8, 1890.
Mm minimum" NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT I. TUROK, OF GENEVA, NEIV YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF vTO GEORGE A. FITTON, OF SAME PLACE.
SASH-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 432,004, dated July 8, 1890.
Application filed February 20, 1890. Serial No. 341,095. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT I. TURcK, of Geneva, in the county of Ontario, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sash Locks, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to devices for locking window sash either when closed or when raised or lowered, and which is mortised into the edge of a sash, engages with a rack in the' stile of the casing, and is operated by a pin inserted through the sash, inside of the glass, and connected to the locking device.
My object is to produce a lock easily manipulated and which can be set so that it can only be Operated by releasing the lookin g mechanism from the set.
My invention consists in the severa-l novel features of construction and operation hereinafter described, and which are specifically set forth in the claims hereto annexed. It is constructed as follows, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a sectional elevation of a window casing, sash, and lock in position locking the sash. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the rack in the stile of the casing, showing` the holes hushed. Fig. Sisaside elevation of the whole lock detached from the sash. Fig. 4 is aplan View of the edge of the sash with lock in position. Y
A is the window-casing.
B is a sash adapted to slide verticallyin the casing and mortised at l to receive the locking-bolt 2. This bolt consists of a bar of metal pivotally mounted upon a pin 3 let into the sash, having one end of the stud or teat 4,which fits into one of the holes 5 in the stile of t-he casing, and in the other end of the bolt I screw the threaded outer end G of the shifting-pin 7 Vhen the sash is locked, the stud i is in one the holes 5. Then by pushing the pin 7 inwardly the leverage throws the stud out of engagement and unlocks the sash, so that it can be raised, (or lowered,) and when raised (or lowered) to the desired point the releasing of the pressure on the pin enables the spring 8 to throw the stud into another hole in the rack. Then, when it is so locked, it can be set, so that the stud cannot be withdrawn, by screwing the screw 6 farther into the bolt until the end projects, as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 3, and so that when thepin 7 is pushed in, the end of the screw will strike the stile before the stud is withdrawn from the liole with which itis then engaged.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination, with the sash and a rack in the stile of the casing, of a bolt pivoted in the sash-rail and engaging with the rack and a push-pin inserted through the sash-rail and adapted to be screwed into and through one end of the bolt.
2. The combination, with a sash and a rack in the stile of the casing, of a bolt pivoted in the sash-rail and having a stud on one end adapted to engage with the rack, a push-pin inserted through the sash-rail and adapted to be screwed into the free end of the bolt and project beyond it, and a spring behind the bolt to throw the stud into engagement with the rack, as set forth,
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 12th day of February, 1890.
ROBERT I. TURGK.
In presence of- H. P. DENIsoN, Bessin H. DENIsoN.
