W. SAULTER.
STOVE PIPE THIMBLE.
No. 431,853,. Patented July 8, 1890.
MCI/(688625 [Ere 116C)! UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
W'ILLIAM SAULTER, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
STOVE-PIPE THIMBLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 431,853, dated July 8, 1890.
Application filed March 6, 1890. Serial No. 342,833- (No model.)
To 60% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM SAULTER, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a new and Improved Stove-Pipe Thimble, of which the following is a specification. The object of the invention is to make a neat, light, and strong stove-pipe thimble; and it consists in the peculiarconstruction, arrangement, and combination of parts, as hereinafter more particularly described, and then definitely pointed out in the claims.
Figure l is a perspective view of. my improved stove -pipe crock, partially broken away to expose the construction. Fig. 2 is a detail of a portion of the metal ring.
A is a sheet-1netal cylinder made the proper diameter to receive the stove-pipe.
B is a similar cylinder larger in diameter than the cylinder A, and surrounding the said cylinder, as shown.
C is a metal plate having an annular flange a formed on it to fit Within the outer ring B, which butts against it, as indicated. b is a flange formed around the hole made in the plate 0. This flange has a ledge cl formed around it, over which the top edge of the cylinder A is lapped or flanged.
D is a metal ring having a shoulder 6 formed on it, against which the bottom edge of the outer cylinder B butts. The inside edge of the ring D rests upon a flange f, around the bottom edge of the inner cylinder A. The plate 0 is first fixed in position, as described, when the space between the two cylinders is filled with the asbestos or mineral wool E. In order to allowa plaster-of-paris or artificialstone ring G to be attached to the ring D, I make a series of holes F through the said ring D, as shown in Fig. 2, into which holes the plaster-of-paris sinks, and into the interstices of the filling, thus securely keying the said ring to the bottom of the crock.
WVhat I claim as my invention is 1. The combination, in a stove-pipe thimhle, of two cylinders A B, said cylinder A having a flange f, a plate 0, connecting the cylinders at one end, the perforated ring D, fitting on the flange f and having a shoulder e to receive the edge of the cylinder B, the fibrous filling E, between the cylinders, and the plaster ring G, uniting the filling, the ring, and the cylinders together, substantially as described.
2. The stove-pipe thimble herein described,
comprising the sheet-metal cylinders A B, said cylinderA having a flanged edge, the metal plate 0, provided with flanges a b, the latter flange having a ledge d to receive the flanged edge of the cylinder A, the perforated plate D, having a flange to receive the cylinder B, and the plaster ring G, the space between the two cylinders being filled with asloestus, mineral wool, or like material, held in position by the plate O atone end and the ring D at the other end of the cylinder, all constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described.
Toronto, January 21, 1890.
