SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,507, dated June 3, 1890 Application filed January 8, 1890. Serial No. 336,298. (No model.)
in Pulleys; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, Which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in pulleys, the object being the production of a pulley which will be self-lubricating, and which will possess merit in point of simplicity,durablity,andinexpe11sivencss,and which will be thoroughly efficient in its operation.
The invention consists, broadly stated, of a pulley having a reservoir, a sleeve or bushing fitted in the bore of the pulley and having openings communicating with the reservoir of the pulley, and a sleeve or bushing tting in the first-mentioned bushing having oilpassages and adapted to revolve on the shaft or with the same.
The invention also consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts of the pulley, substantially as illustratedl in the drawings, and described and claimed hereinafter. i
Figure l represents a vertical central section of a pulley constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention. Figs. 2, 3, and 4 represent similar views of the parts of the pulley detached.
Referring by numerals to the drawings, in which the same numerals designate corresponding parts in the several figures, the numeral l designates the pulley proper, formed with a reservoir 2, in this instance substantially oval-shaped, and provided with a lling-opening 3, closed by a vent-plug 4.
IVithin the bore of the pulley is iitted a sleeve or bushing 5,having.oilfeeding openings 6, communicating with the reservoir of the pulley, and in said sleeve 5 is tted a sleeve or bushing 6', having longitudinal oilpassages 7, and said sleeve 6 may be loose in the sleeve 5 and form the bearing therefor, or it may be fast and revolve with the pulley on the shaft, as may be desired.
The numerals 62 designate a series of circumferential oil-passages in sleeve 6, cornm unicating with the openings 63, by which the feeding of the oil is facilitated.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I provide a self-oiling' pulley which is thoroughly effective for the purpose intended, and one which possesses n umerous advantages over pulleys in general use, as Will be readily understood and appreciated by all skilled in the art.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A pulley having a reservoir 2, a bushing or sleeve tted in said pulley and having openings 6 communicating with reservoir 2, and a bushing or sleeve 6 fitted in said iirst-named lsleeve and having openings 63, longitudinal oil-passages 7, and circumferential oil-passages 62, substantially as described.
