SKATE.
No. 429,266. Patented June 3, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE,
AUGUST ERNST FIEDLER, OF OI-IEMNITZ, SAXONY, GERMANY.
SKATE.
SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,266, dated June 3, 1890.
Application filed November 4, 1889. Serial No.329,160- (No model.) Patented in Germany March 5, 1889, No. 49,695, and September 23, 1889, No. 51,056, and in Austria-Hungary October 10, 1889, No. 44,215 and No. 67,012.
To all whom it mag concern.-
Be it known that 1, AUGUST ERNST FIEDLEE, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Skates, (for which I have obtained patent in Germany, No. 49,695, March 5, 1889, and No. 51,056, September 23, 1889, and in Austria- Hungary, No. 4 1,215 and No. 67,012, October 10, 1889,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in skates, and has for its purpose to provide an effective device for rendering the step of the person using the skate more elastic both vertically and lengthwise than is the case in the skates hitherto known.
Referring to the ac,companying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view and partial section; Fig. 2, a plan of a skate embodying the improvement. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the improved device along line A B, Fig. 1.
The plate 0, secured on spring d, which bears on rail or cheek a and is pivoted at g, is provided with a sloth, in which is displaceable the quadrangular block 70. Through the latter passes a pin 2, connected at the top with foot-rest Z), and having atits lower extremity a screw-thread for receiving the nut m.
Around pin z and between block 7c and nut on a helical spring 1 is provided, which tends to press the block In in an upward and the foot-plate b in a downward direct-ion against plate 0.
To foot-plate Z) are secured clamps e 6 adjustable by means of screws 5 s and serving to be firmly pressed against the sides of the sole, thereby causing foot-plate Z) to adjust itself around pin 2 to the shape of the sole.
The above-described disposition of block it enables the foot-rest b to slide to and fro in the slot h, thereby compensating the elastic up-and-down movement of the plate 0.
\Vhat I claim is In skates, a device for rendering the step of the skater elastic, consisting of a sole-rest I), having adjustable clamps e e ,in combination with pin ,2, slotted plate 0, elastic plate or how cl, block 70, helical spring I, and nut m, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
