Be it known that I, THEODORE SPRING- MEYER, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Collar-and-Ouff Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to an improved collarand-cuff box, and has for its obj ect to provide ro the said box with a well or receptacle conveniently located and adapted to receive such small articles as sleeve-buttons, collar and cuff studs, and similar articles used inconnection with apparel.

I5 The invention consists in the novel construction of the box, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying zo drawings, forming a part of this specification,

in which similar figures and letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the im- 2 5 proved box, the lid of the receptacle, well, or

pocket being open. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section through the box, the lid of the well, receptacle, or pocket being closed; and Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2, illustrating v3o the well, receptacle, or pocket as located upon the inner face of the box-cover. Fig. 4 is a detail View to better show the construction of the well or pocket.

The body of the box may be of any ap- 3 5 proved construction, preferably consisting of an outer shell or case 10, a central vertical tubular partition 11, extending` from the bottom to the top of the shell, and a horizontal partition 12, located between the shell and the 4o vertical tubular partition 11. The space above the partition 12 forxns a collar-receptacle, while that within the tube 11 is to receive cuffs. The space below the partition 12 has no purpose. From the partition l2 a 45 tube l2a extends upwardly beyond the upper edgeof the case to form a cap or cover receiving ange. I

The body of the box is provided with a ca or cover 13, which fits over the upper end of the 5o tube 12, and is preferably upholstered upon the inner side, as illustrated at a in Fig. 2.

In the cap or cover, at its central portion, I preferably make an opening, in which opening a pocket, well, or similar recept-acle 14 is inserted, which well or pocket extends down- 5 5 ward below the inner surface of the cover, and is provided with an upper flange 15, which is attached to the upper or outer face of the said cover around the opening therein. This flange 15 is inclosed by a ring 15a, having an 6o inner flange 17 and an outer depending flange 18. The lower edge of the flange 17 rests on the upper face of the flange 15, and the outer flange 1S incloscs the periphery of the ange 15. 6 5

19 are rivets passed through the ring 15, the flange 15, and the cover 13, securing said flange and ring in place.

The pocket or well is provided with, preferably, a spring-pressed lid 16 and a suitable 7o latch device, whereby the said lid may be held in a closed position. The lid is hinged to the ring 15, and the latch device is also carried thereby. Vhen alining is employed in connection with the inner surface of the cover, or the said inner surface is upholstered, the lining or upholstering is made to conceal the pocket or well, as best shown in Fig. 2; but if in practice it is found desirable the opening in the cap or cover 13 may be omitted, and 8o the well or pocket 14E may be attached by cement or otherwise to the under face of the cover at its center, as illustrated in Fig. 3, in which event the lid 16 is hinged to the lower end of the well or pocket. 8 5

In Fig. 3 the rivets pass through the ring 15 and flange 15, but not through the lid.

I desire it to be distinctly understood that the well or pocket may be circular, oblong, or of any other desired shape, and that byreason 9o of its being located in the center of the cover and made to extend down below the inner face of said cover the pocket orwell does not in the slightest interfere with any articles that may be placed in the body of the box, as when the cover is placed upon the body the inner projecting portion of the Well or pocket is located within the tubular partition 11 at its upper end, and as said partition is adapted to form a receptacle for cuffs the well or Ioo pocket, when the lid is closed upon the cover, Will pass downward in the space formed bethe Way, while a convenient receptacle is obtained to receive small articles olf jewelry, such as buttons, studs, and the like.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure hy Letters i o Patent- 1. As a newartleloof manufacture, a collarand-cull box having a central tubular cuff-receptacle, an annular collar-receptacle, a cap or cover, and a sinall pocket or well secured eentrally to the cover having a lid and entering the upper end el. the tubular cuff-receptacle when the cap or cover is applied to the said hex, substantially as set forth.

The combination, with a collz'Lr-and-cuff- 2o box cap or cover, of the well or pocket havinga llange 1.5 around its open end, a ring 15, riveted to said ilange and provided with an inner llange 17, resting on the face of the flange 15, and an outer llange 18, inclosing the periphery of Sai 1lla11ge 15, the lid 16, hinged to the ring 15, and a securing-catch for the said lid, substantially as set forth.

A eollar-and-cullbox cap or cover having a central opening, a well 1-1, projecting down through the opening and having a flange 15, resting on the top of the cap or cover, a ring 15, having an inner llange 17, resting on lhe face of; the flange 15, and an outer ring 18, resting on the upper face of: the cap or cover and inclosing the periphery of the flange 15, the rivets 1f), passing through the ilange 15, the ring 15, andthe cover, and the lid le', hinged to the ring and provided with a securing-catch, substantially as set forth.
