SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.423,643, dated March 18, 1890.

Be it known that I, EDWARD H. TAYLOR,
of the city of Paterson, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tarp- Beaming Machines, of which t-he following is a specification.
My improvement relates to beaming attachments for warpingmills adapted to beam narrow warps for looms.
The following is a description of-my improvement in detail:
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, andin which similar letters of reference indicate like parts, Figure lis a side el evation of a warp-beamin g machine. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of part of the same, showing the beaming attachment embodying my invention. Fig. 3 is a plan of one of the adjustable heads and supports therefor. Fig. 4 is a front sectional elevation of part of the same. Fig. 5 is aside viewthereof in section. Fig. 6 is a side elevation, partly in section, of part of my warpbeaming machine. Fig. 7 is a front elevation of part of the same.
The frame and reel of the .warping-mill A may be of any, desired construction. The warp Z is wound from the reel D to and upon a series of beams E E, Figs. 2 and 7, and any desired number of beams maybe employed. The beams are held in line partly by means of a rod lo, which passes axially through them, and partly by driving-studs' f2 in disks f, mounted upon a number of hollow shafts k2, which hollow shafts are journaled in movable standards g, each standard g being provided with an oil-hole g. As many movable standards may be employed as are necessary for the number of beams desired to be wound. The beams and movable standards alternate, and each of the disks or plates f has a slot f 3, in which the driving-stud f2 is secured by means of a nut f, and in which the stud f2 is capable of being adjusted for the .purpose of driving a large or small beam, as the case may require. The stud engages the head of the beam and causes the beam and disk to revolve together. The movable standards g g are mounted' on the frame or bed A', which is constructed, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, with a longitudinal opening or slot A5. Each standard is mounted on a sole-plate h,`wl1ichis secured to the frame A by means of the screw h3, which passes through the opening or slot A5 in the frame A and into the bottom or sole-plate. h of the standard, and has on the lower end thereof the washer-plate h4 and wing-nut h5, as shown in Figs. 2, 5, 6, aud 7. On the sole-plate h of each standard plates h h are secured by screws h6, said plates being beveled on their inner edges, as shown in Fig. 4, so as to permit the standard g to slide between them on the sole-plate h. A screw h2 passes through a threaded lug on the sole-plate, and its plain end is held in a socket in the standard by a screw hs, the end of which enters a groove in the end of screwhz.
In Figs. 2, G, and 7 of the drawings, b4 represents a cone-pulleysecured to one end of one of the hollow spindles k2. The cone-pulley b4 is caused to revolve either by means of the belt :nwhich passes from the cone-pul-` ley h on line-shaft h2 to said cone-pulley b4, as shown in Fig. 7, or it receives its motion from a belt Z925, which passes from the main driving-pulley h on shaft b2 to pulley b, which is mounted on shaft b5 and is fast to the pinion c, which is thereby revolved, the pinion c engaging the gear-wheel d, which is mounted on one end of a hollow shaft k2, journaled in the collar co3 of the bracket ct, which is secured to one end of the frame A. The pinion c thus revolves said hollow shaft 7a2 and its driving-plate f, which.is secured to the other end thereof and carries a stud f2, which engages with the cone-pulley b4. To prevent the gear-wheel d from rotating in a wrong direction,I employ the pawl c, which is mounted in the standard a. A loose pulley Z326 is mounted at the side of pulley b. The beams are apt to get out of line sometimes and impede the working of the machine, and to obviate that difficulty the'standards g are constructed so as to be easily moved backward or forward, as occasion requires, on the sole-plates lt between the side plates h by manipulating the set-screws h2. Motion giveuto the driving-pulley b from pulley b', located on the line-shaft b2, is thence transmitted to the gear-wheel d, located on the head a3, by the pinion c.' The disk or driving-plate f, mounted on the shaft k2 of the wheel d, by means of its stud f2, communicates a rotary motion to the conepulley b4 on the second shaft k2. .On the other end lof IOO first beam E, which revolves on the rod 75,
which latter passes through all the beams E E and hollow shafts k2. The firstbeam Egbeing in motion, imparts to the third plate f at its other end, by means of a similar stud f2, a rotary motion, and thus throughout the beams of the series, Figs. 2 and 7. The adjustment for the lengths of the beams E is made by moving the standards g g nearer together or farther apart on the bed A and fastening them in position by the holding devices described. Adjustment transversely is effected by moving the standards g into line by the screws h2. attached to the beams E in a suitable manner, on the system of beams E being p ut in motion the'warp Z is unwound from the reel D, which revolves in bearings B in the frame A2, Figs. l and 6, and is wound upon the beams E until the beams are iilled. Then the machine is stopped,the warp cut, and the the wire or rod k and slackening the studs f2. Empty beams now are inserted, the wire or rod 7c and studs f2 are readj usted, and the machine is again started and the operation repeated.
To operate for edge warping or beaming, the belt from the pulley b is shifted from .the pulley b to the loose pulley Z926, the stud f2 is removed from the first ,disk f on the shaft -70.2, which is held in the collar 0.3, and a belt is put on the cone-pulleys b3 b4, whereby motion is imparted to the disks or plates f and to the system of beams 'E before described. A moreor less rapid motion is imparted by arranging the belt on the larger or smaller surfaces of the cones b3 b4, the filling of the beams E E from the reel D being much more rapid than with the gearing system before described, by-reason of the motion being taken direct from the line-shaft b2 instead of being communicated through the gearing-wheel and pinions c and d.
With this description of my invention, what I claim isl. The combination, with driving mechanism, of a number of hollow shafts to which are secured disks provided with drivingstuds adapted to engage the opposite heads of beams upon which warp is to be beamed, whereby motion is transmitted throughout the series, a rod which passes through the beams and hollow shafts, movable standards in which said hollow shafts are journaled, sole plates on which said standards are mounted, a bed for supporting the sole-plates,

The combination, with driving mechanism having a gear-wheel, of a number of hollow shafts, one of which is provided at one end with a gear-wheel in mesh with the gearwheel of the driving mechanism and at the other end with a driving-disk having a driving-stud secured therein, the adjoining hollow shaft of the series carrying a part adapted to be engaged by said driving-stud, disks mounted on the other end of this shaft and on each end of each of the remaining hollow shafts and provided with drivingstuds, a rod or wire passing through the whole series of hollow shafts and the beams placed between the disks, a number of mov- IOO IIO
