IMPROVEMENT IN YARN-GUIDES FOR SPINNING-MACHINES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 41,582, dated February 9, 1834.

T 0 all whom it may concerm Be it known that I, EDMUND LORD, a resident of Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved YarnAGuide for Spinning-Machines, and I do hereby declare the same to be fully described inthe following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, ot' which- Figure l is a top view, Fig. 2 a front end view, and Fig. 3 a perspective view, of it.

My invention is an improved guide as made with or having combined with it or its eye a notched arm or projection arranged so as to project downward from the eye, and constructed with a notch or recess on one side of it, the purpose of such arm and notch being to catch a yarn after it may have become broken between the guide and the draw-rollers and break it at or near the bobbin, in order that it may not be thrown by the bobbin so as to become entangled with other yarns in the vicinity of it or become wound upon adjacent portions or" the spinning machinery; and my invention further consists in a guide so made and as constructed with an auxiliary horizontal bend arranged in manner as hereinafter' described, and as represented in Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings, the said auxiliary bend serving to facilitate the catching of the yarn by the notch of the projection.

The yarn-guide in question is to be used in throstle or other spinning-machines, and between the draw-rollers and the bobbin or spindle thereof, and is to support the yarn in its passage from the draw-rollers.

As usually made, the guide is a wire formed with a round eye at one end and with a screw on the straight part or shank. In connection with the eye, I provide the guide with a downward projection, shown at a in the drawings, in which b is the eye, and c the shank, provided with a screw, d, for fastening the guide in the part of the spinning-frame to which it is to be secured. The downward projection is made with a notch, e, arranged in one side of it, as shown in Fig. 2. The eye, besides being so made, has an auxiliary bend or turn, f, the same being as shown in Fig. l.

On breakage of the yarn, it will be immediately thrown around the projection and into its notch, whereby it will be broken oft" close to the notch, and thus the waste or part which niay be above the guide will be prevented from being thrown around some one or more of the other yarns or on the machinery for twisting them.

I claim l. The improved yarn-guide as made with or having combined with its eye a notched projection, a, arranged relatively thereto, substantially in manner and for the purpose hereinbefore speciiied.

2. The guide as made with the notched proj ection a, and with its eye formed with the auX- iliary bend f, and in other respects substantially as represented in the accompanying drawings.
