UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE H. CROSS, OF ST. JOHNSBURY, VERMONT.
DOUGH-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 410,350, dated September 3, 1889.
Application filed May 22, 1889. Serial No. 311,749. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. Cnoss, of St. J ohnsbury, in the county of Caledonia and State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dough-Machine Dusters, of which the following is a specification. My invention consists in a new and improved dough-machine duster, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view on line2 2, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view.
' The same numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Referring to the several parts by their designating-numerals, 1 indicates the rectangular frame in which the dust-box of my invention is preferably supported or suspended over a dough-board. Heretofore the dusting substancefiour, starch, &c.used by bakers has been thrown on the dough-board for dusting by hand, taking it from the board with the hand as required.
My improvement and invention consists in a box 2, which is formed with a sieve-bottom 3-a bottom having a great number of fine perforations-and which is suspended above and over a dough-board in any suitable manner, as in the frame 1. On the bottom of this box slides a frame composed of the side pieces 3 3 and the cross-bars l, the ends of which extend under and are secured to the side bars 3.
Cleats 5 5 are secured to the inner sides of the box, near the bottom thereof, beneath which the side bars 4 of the frame 3 at slide, the cleats serving to hold the frame down upon the sieve-bottom of the box while it is reciprocated.
To one end of the box 2 is centrally pivoted, in a bearing 6, an L-shaped lever 7, the
lower end of which is pivoted to the central projecting part 3 of a connecting-rod 9, the ends of whichare secured to the end of the frame 3 4, the central part 8 passing through a slot 10 in that end of the box. To the upper'end of the lever 7 is hinged the upper end of an operating rod, cord, or wire 11, which runs down and is preferably connected atits lower end to a foot-treadle 12. A spiral spring 13 is connected at its lower end to the upper end of the crank-lever 7 and secured at its upper end to the frame 1.
The operation of my invention will be readily seen. Instead of dusting by taking the flour, due, in the hand, all that is necessary is to press the treadle 12 with the foot, when the frame 3 at will be slid back and forth over the sieve-bottom, the spring 13 raising the lever 7 when the pressure of the foot is lifted from the treadle, thus evenly sifting the dusting substance down over the board in a much less space of time and in a more even and satisfactory manner than if done by hand.
Instead of using a foot-tre'adle, the wire or rod 11 can, if preferred, be worked by hand; also, the spring 13 can be dispensed with and the crank-lever operated entirely by the rod 11.
The box, with its sieve-bottom, may be arranged to slide back and forth in the frame 1 and the dusting done in that manner, instead of by a frame sliding in a fixed box.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. The combination, with the frame 1, of the box 2, having the perforated bottom 3, the sliding frame 3 t, the lever 7, centrally pivoted to the end of the box 2, the rod 9, connecting the sliding frame and one end of the lever, and an operating-rod 11, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the frame 1, of the box having a perforated bottom, the sliding frame, the centrally-pivoted lever, the rod con nectin g the frame and lever, an operatingrod, and the coiled spring, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, with the frame 1, of the box having the perforated bottom and the inner side cleats, the sliding frame, the. centrally-pivoted lever, the rod connecting the frame and lever, the coiled spring, a footpedal, and the rod connecting the lever and pedal, substantially as set forth.
