Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HELEN FAREWELL, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
WASH-BOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 407,727, dated July 23, 1889.
Application filed November 14, 1888. Serial No. 290,765. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HELEN FAREWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of WVayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Wash-Boilers; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in wash-boilers; and it consists of the constructions illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing I have represented my invention in cross-section.
Heretofore, as far as I am aware, it has been the general practice to first boil the fine clothes, and after these have been removed to boil the coarse clothes, although I am aware that two separate boilers have been arranged in a skeleton holder, so that they might be lifted simultaneously. My invention, however, dilfers in intent and result from such construction in that it pi ovides a single complete boiler composed of sections each complete in itself, but permanently united to form a whole.
I carry out my invention as follows:
A represents the body of a wash-boiler, and B is the bottom.
As shown, the two compartments are made by engaging two boilers together longitudinally in anyproper manner, as by a cap F, located over their adjacent top edges, and by means of a connecting-plate G engaging the adjacent rims of their two bottoms. The advantages of a boiler with double compartments will thus be seen.
Boilers so made may be constructed of large and small sizes, as may be preferred.
What I claim as my invention is A wash-boiler consisting of two sections each complete in itself, a plate extending along the adjacent bottom edges of the sections, and a cap extending along the adjacent top edges of the sections, the plate and the cap firmly uniting the two sections into a complete whole, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
, HELEN FAREWELL.
