GORDON M. TYRRELL, OF NEIY HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 404,323, dated May 28, 1889.
Application filed leptemhc' 8, 1888. Serial No. 284,860. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GORDON M. TYRRELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improved buckle for suspenders and similar articles that will firmly clasp the strap.
The invention consists in the various features of improvement more fully pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front view of my improved buckle. Fig. 2 is a front view of the buckleframe with the slide removed. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on line 00 51:, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 represents the slide, and Fig. 5 is a perspecti ve view showing the inturned edge provided with teeth.
A is the frame of the buckle, having ahook, B, upon its lower end and the top turned inward and teeth formed thereon to grasp the strap.
011 each side of the buckle-frame A are spring-arms a a, formed by cutting transverse and longitudinal slots in the frame.
C is the slide, which partially encircles the buckle-frame, and having its bent ends 0 c resting upon the spring-arms a a 011 the face of the buckle-frame. To prevent the slide C from slipping 01f of the end of the buckleframe, the sides of the frame where the springarms are formed are beveled, so that the frame is wider at'the base than at the top.
The operation is as follows: The strap D is passed between the frame A and slide C, and the slide pushed into position over the springarms a a, which presses them inward and causes them to act as a cam and hold the strap tightly in place. If the slide should not be placed in its correct position, a slight pull upon the hook D will cause it to immediately assume its place.
Having fully describedmy invention, what I claim is 1. The combination of a frame, A, having an inwardly-turned upper edge and provided with spring-arms a a, formed integral with its side, with a movable slide, C, to operate said spring-arms, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of a frame, A, having an inwardly-turned upper edge, and beveled sides having spring-arms a a, formed integral therewith, with a movable slide, C, to operate said spring-arms, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GORDON M. TYRRELL.
Witnesses:
