TOE-WEIGHT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 404,109, dated May 28, 1889. Application filed August 13, 1888. Serial No. 282,523. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRED HENRY PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montpelier, in the county of Washington and State of Vermont, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toe-Weights for Horses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in toe-weights for horses, which may be readily and conveniently fixed to the hoof by means of holes bored in the hoof for the reception of the spurs B and F. Said invention may be equally well applied to a shod or an unshod hoof, and is entirely independent of the shoe. It may also be used on the side or front of the hoof, as desired.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a horizontal I longitudinal section of the weight and boltin place. Fig. 2 is a view of the bolt. Fig. 3is ahorizontal longitudinal section of the weight without the bolt.
Like letters refer to similar parts throughout the several figures.
A represents a toe-weight having a concave surface adapted to fit the front or side of the hoof, made of any suitable material, and having a fixed spur, F, attached to the concave surface, and at such angle as will hold securely the toe-weight in place.
B represents a movable spur which passes through the opening 0 in the toe-weight A, and which corresponds with the spur F when the movable spur is drawn up by means of the nut D.
0 represents the opening in the toe-weight A, through which the movable spurB passes. Said opening C has a chamber, E, to receive the nut D.
D represents the nut which rests within the chamber E, and by which the movable spurB is drawn up, looking the toe-weight to the hoof.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The toe-weight A, provided with a fixed spur, F, and the orifice E, extendinglongitudinally through the weight, in combination with the screw-bolt B, fitting the orifice and provided with a hooked spur projecting oppositely to spur F, and fasteningnut, substantially as and for the purpose described.
