AWNING GLBVIS. 1 No. 400,895. Patented Apr. 9., 1889..

WILLIAM M. BROWN, OF INGRAM STATION, PENNSYLVANIA.
AWNING-CLEVIS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 400,895, dated April 9, 1889.A
Application filed August 1'7, 1888. Serial No. 282,956. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ingram Station, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Awning- Clevises; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved awning-clevis, the object being to provide a means whereby the frame of an awning may be hinged without swaging the same. This I accomplish by means of a threaded coupling which can be readily attached to the ends of the frame, as will be fully set forth hereinafter. y
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a side elevation of my improved awning-clevis, partly shown in section the better to show the manner of attaching the same to the frame of an awning. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
In swinging or hinged awnings the frame a is usually formed of round bar-iron or gaspipe, and in order to secure the same in position the hinged ends of the frame are swaged or flattened and perforated to receive the hinge-pin b. struct a coupling, c, having a flat portion, d,
To obviate this, I con-v through which an opening is formed for the purpose of hinging the same to a suitable bracket, e, by means of a transverse rivet or pin, b. At the other end of this coupling c is an enlargement, f, having formed in the front a screw-thread, by means of which the coupling c may be rigidly attached to the frame ce.
By means of this device the swaging of the hinged ends of the awning-frame a is dispensed with, therefore obviating the necessity of employing skilled labor.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination of a rigid bracket, e, securely fixed to a wall or other structure and having the parallel spaced ears, a clevis having a threaded socket, f, at one end and its other end reduced in thickness and fitted between said ears of the bracket, a pivot-bolt passing through the ears and the reduced end of the clevis, said clevis adapted to turn on the bolt, and a tubular frame-section, a, screwed into the threaded socket, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto aflix my signature this 27th day of February, A. D. 1888.
WILLIAM M. BROWN. [L s] In presence of- FRANK W. SMITH, M. E. HARRISON.
