Be it known that I, MICHAEL HERRQN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bordentown, in the county of Burlington, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improt'ement in Delivery- Chutes for Dredging-Machines, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing.
IO My invention relates to improvements in dredging-machines, and has especial reference to a delivery or discharge chute t'or machines of this character.
The delivery-chutes at present in general use are defective in that the sand or other material is only delivered to one portion of the receiving boat or vessel, and the vessel must be moved or the material distributed by manual labor. This defect, as is evident, in-
volves a great expense and loss of time.
The leading object of my invention is the production ofwhat may be termed an adjustable delivery-chute, whereby the said chute may be adjusted to deliver or deposit the material to any desired portion of the receiving-boat.
A further object is the production of a delivery-chute which will be of strong and durable construction in order to withstand the hard usage, which can be operated with'ease,
and which can be applied to dredging-machines at a comparatively low figure.
To attain the objects mentioned, the invention consists in a delivery-chute capable of 3 5 vertical adjustment to incline the same to any desired angle; further, in a delivery-chute having hinged or jointed sections, whereby the chute may be lengthened or the sections adjusted to deliver the material to diiterent 40 places; further, a delivery-chute consisting of hinged sections, one of said sections being provided with an inwardly-extending tail or guide, said sections being adjustable.

Referring to the drawing, A designates the frame of the machine, having the standards or uprights a and a and an inclined beam, a
B designates the chute proper, which at its inner end is journaled in the standards a,
and is adapted to be raised and lowered by means of the chains or ropes-b, which are connected to the outer ends of the chute and pass over pulleys or sheaves b and blocks 12 on the standards a. From this construction it is evident that the chute may be raised and lowered or adjusted to any desired angle.
0 designates a section having pivotally-depending arms projecting from the chute B, and provided with a tail, 0, by means of which the material. can be delivered against the sides of the boat or at other points, as desired.
D designates a section hinged or jointed to arms projecting from the section 0, as shown, and chains (Z connect these arms with the chains 17 of section B, whereby the entire chute may be raised or lowered, if desired.
To the outer portion of the section D are attached chains d, which pass over pulleys or sheaves (1 arranged at proper points of the frame, and are operated, preferably, by means of a Windlass, E, so as to adjust the section D.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I provide a chute by means of which material may be received from the buckets or carrier and discharged at the end of the chute proper or at the outer ends of either of the sections 0 D, or at the tail 0', it being seen that the sections maybe placed in the positions shown in full and dotted lines in the drawing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. I11 a delivery-chute, the combination, with the vertically-adjustable main section, of a section hinged thereto having an inwardlyextending tail or guide, substantially as described.
2. In a delivery-chute, the combination of a 0 main section, a section hinged thereto having a tail or guide, and a section hinged to said section, all of said sections being adjustable with relation to each other, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
3. In a dredging-machine,a sectional chute having its main part pivoted at or near one end, a section pivotally connected to the main part and having a tail portion, 0', mechanism for raising and lowering the main. portion, and a chain connected to the section and to the said raising and lowering mechanism, said main portion and sections, said parts being combined substantially as described.
5. A delivery-chute composed of hinged sections, one of said sections being provided with a tail below the main body of the chute, substantially as and for the purpose described.
6. A delivery-chute for a dred ring-machine, consisting of a main portion and sections, the main portion and adjacent section having projecting arms, to which projecting arm of the main section the adjacent section and its arms are pii'otally attached, and mechanism for raising and lowering said sections, said parts combined substantially as described.
