COOKING-STOVE.

Beit known that we, JOHN B. PRENDERGAST and HANS TALLAKSON, citizens of the United States, residing at lVelistei, in the county of Day, Territory of Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Straw-Burning Cooking-Stoves, of which the followingl is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention has relation to straw-burning cooking-stoves, and among the objects in view are to provide a stove for this purpose which will be cheap and simple, so arranged as to utilize to the best advantage the heat generated therein for cooking purposes, and

to provide means for feeding fuel in a compact and convenient manner to the stove.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel 2o features be particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a substantially centrallongitudinal section of a straw-burning cooking-stove constructed in accordance with our invention, the fuel-cylinder being' contained therein and in the act of feeding fuel thereto, and Fig'. 2 is a perspective, in detail, of the fuel-cylinder.

' A represents the fire-box of the stove, which is cylindrical and formed of light metal, and is provided with au ash-pit, A, at its front end, having an ash-pan, A2, and an intermediate grate, A3, mounted between the lire-cylinder and the ash-pit. The ash-pitA serves to support the front end of the cylinder A,

and in this instance suitable legs, A1, serve to support the rear end thereof.

The cylinder A is provided with doors A11 A6 at its front and rear ends, respectively, and at the former end with a draft-opening, A1. A partition, AS, is arranged horizontally within the cylinder, and serves to conduct the 4 5 products of combustion to the front and along the upper portion and to the rear of the cylinder thus under the openings A11, formed in the vtop of the cylinder for the reception of ordinary culinary vessels placed thereon.

5o At the rear end of the partition As there is formed an opening, A10, adapted to be closed and opened by means of a sliding' gate or damper, A11, mounted on the partition and controlled by an operating-rod, A12, which projects from the front ofthe stove.

At the rear end of the cylinder A is formed an opening, A13, upon which is fitted the pipe or uptake B, which is formed with a heatingdrum, B', containing an oven, B2, around which the heat passes on its way up said pipe.

C represents the feeding-cylinder, which is open at both ends and formed with opposite longitudinal slots, O', through which pass a cross-bar, C2, which projects at each side of the cylinder, and has secured thereto and within the cylinder a circular plate, O3, adapted to ride from end to end of the cylinder.

To feed fuel to the lire-cylinder A, the fuelcylinder C is first iilled with fuel and introduced through the door A6 into said fire-cylinder, and the ends of the bar O2 inserted into oppositelyarranged hooks A11, (see dotted lines, Fig. 1,) and the cylinder then withdrawn by means of the cross-bar O1.- As vthe cylinder is withdrawn to the rear the bar C2 and its plate O1 are held stationary by means of the hook A11, arranged at each side of the door A11, which plate prevents the fuel from being withdrawn with the cylinder, an d forces the same to remain within the fire-cylinder A. lYhen the cylinder C is withdrawn as far as permissible, the rod O2 is disengaged from the hook A1"1 and the cylinder C wholly removed from the stove, and can be again relilled. The door A1 is then closed and the stove will be in condition for cooking. By closing the opening A10 by means of the damper A11 and its rod A12, a more indirect draft is given to the stove, and the products of combustion carried under the openings A1, as before indicated. By drawing the damper A11 to the front, a direct draft is given, and the heat carried directly around the oven B2 for baking purposes.

Having described our invention, what we claim is l.
