UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS G. GIISTAVEL, OF MONTICELLO, INDIANA.
HAM E-TUG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 394,358, dated December 11, 1888.
Application filed October 15, 1888. Serial No. 288,111. (No model.)
To all whom, it 11mg/ concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS G. GUSTAVEL, of Monticello, in the county ot' \Vhite and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in l'laniefli'lgs; and I do hereby declare that lthe following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference bein had to the accomlmnying drawings, and to the letters ot' reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side plan view ot.' myimproved tug, the trace being removed. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the same with the trace. Fig. El is a transverse section on line :n so, Fig. 2.
This invention is an improved haine-tug, and its object is to provide a strong, durable, simple, and cheap tug; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangements of parts, hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring by letters to the drawings, A represents a metal frame consisting of two similar parallel bars, B B, rectangular in crosssection and lying with their widest edges uppermost. The front ends of these bars are shouldered at h h, and are connected by a cross-piece, O, which has an inwardly-stand` ing perforated lip, c, on one edge. The bars are extended beyond piece C into arms D D, which are connected by a rod, d, upon which the clip-strap c is secured. The arms D D lie in the same horizontal plane as bars B B, as illustrated.
The rear ends of bars B B are connected by a transverse piece, E, which has a perforated lip, e, at its side, and has a transverse groove or channel, F, in its under surface, which channel is also continued through the edges of bars B B, and in which the shank of a buckle, f, is secured.
At equidistant intermediate points between pieces C and E the bars I3 B are connected by transverse braces G G, which have perforated lips g g projecting from one edge and which are channeled on their under surfaces at H Il, the channels continuing through the edges of bars B B. In these channels fit the bars 'i of loops I, which are slipped on the frame previous to the attachment of the buckle thereto.
After the loops and buckles are slipped in place a metallic longitudinal strip, J, is placed beneath fra-me A, and is secured thereto by means of rivets j, that are passed through the perforated lips of the cross-pieces and bra-ces of the frame and through corresponding openings in the strip. l-ly this meansthe loops and buckle are securely attached to the frame. In order to prot-ect the animal Ipreferably secure a leather shield-piece, K, beneath strip J, as indicated.
The frame A with .its cross -pieccs and braces can be formed integral, and, owing to the arrangement of the hars, they are subjected to strain edgewise, and consequently will not readily bend. Loops and buckles of diiferent size can be readily attached to the saine frame by detaching strip J, removing the old buckles or loops, slipping the new ones in place, and rerivetin g the strip to the frame. I have thus a very simple easily-constructed tug, which can be readily adapted to varying sizes of harness by attaching properloops and buckles thereto.
Having described my invention, what I claim is l. In the llame-tug herein described, the combination of a frame having two angular side bars connected by cross-pieces and braces, the braces being channeled in their under surfaces, with the loops and buckle secured in said channels, and the strip secured to the under surface of the frame and confining the loops and buckle thereto, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, in a haine-tug, of the frame composed of rectangular side bars connected at the ends by cross-pieces having perforated lips, the rear cross-piece being channeled on its under side, and the series of braces connecting the bars between the said pieces also having perforated lips and channeled on their under sides, with the loops seated in the channels of the braces, the buckle seated in the channel of the cross-piece, and the strip on the under surface of the fra-ine secured to the lips, all substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, in a haine-tug, of the frame composed of angular parallel side bars connected at front and rear by cross-pieces IOO having perforated lips, the rem1 piece being channeled ou its under side for the reception of a bueklebfn, the arms D D, proj eating ben yond the front piece and connected by a rod on which the Clip-loop is seeu1ed,m1d the series of intermediate braces having perforated lips and channeled on their under side for the ieception of loop-bars, with the loops, bnekle, and transverse strip secured to the said lips and retaining the loops and buckle in place, I' all substantially as described.
In testimony that I Claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
