No. 898,929. Patented Dec. 4, 188.8.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. SHA OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
ADJUSTABLE SHUTT ER BOWER OR FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 393,929, dated December 4, 1888.
- ton, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable VVindoW- Blind Fasteners or Shutter-Bowers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in. the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a front elevation, Fig. 2 a back view, and Fig. 3 an edge view, partly in section, of a device for securing window-blinds to each other, by which they can be held in a partially or more or less open position, as may be desired. Fig. at is a front view of it as applied to the inner side of portions of two blinds.
The nature of my invention is defined in the claims hereinafter presented.
In the drawings, A and B denote two hooked arms pivoted together, as shown at C. Surrounding the pivot C and concentric therewith there is formed in the part A a series of holes, a, as shown in Fig. 2. Pivoted to a boss, Z), forming a part of the arm B, is a springlever, D, to which is jointed a pin, 0, arranged to slide in a bearing, (1, in the arm B and extend through the same into either of the holes a when moved so as to coincide therewith. By pressing the spring end of the lever D toward the arm B the pin 0 will be withdrawn from the hole a in which it may be, so as to admit of the hooks of the arms being moved Serial No. 279,976. (No model.)
toward each other or farther apart, in order to diminish or increase the opening between the blinds, as may be desired, when the hooks of the arms are connected to eyes E E, secured to the vertical side bars of the win (low-blinds F F, as shown in Fig. 4.
The device can be readily unhooked from the eyes E E when it is desired to swing the blinds wide open. By extending the point of one of the hooks, as shown in dotted lines at o in Fig. 4, near to the shoulder p of the arm the device can. be securely attached to the eye of one of the blinds, so that it will be ready for use at any time, by springing the point away from the shoulder enough to admit of applying the hook to the eye and afterward springing the prong back again.
Having described my invention, what I claim is- 1. A shutter-bower consisting of two arms having hooked ends and pivoted together and provided at their pivot with an adjustable locking device, as set forth.
2. The combination, in a shutter-bower, of the hooked arms pivoted to each other, one arm being provided with a series of holes concentric with the pivot, and the other arm having a spring-lever provided with a pin, which will enter either hole of the series when moved into coincidence therewith and lock the arms together, essentially as shown and set forth.
In testimony whereof I a-t'fixmy signature in presence of two witnesses.
