RETARDlNG-TUBE FOR CASH-CARRIERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 391,051, dated October 16, 1888.
Application filed April 24, 1888. Serial No. 27L703.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK NORMAN JONEs, a subject of Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Leeds, in the county 5 of York,England, haveinventedanew and useful Improved Retarding-Tube for Cash or Parcel Carrier Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to retard the fall of the ball or carrier of a caslrcarrier apparatus; and to this end theinvention consists in employing a tube of net-work or other flexible material, through which the carrier falls, said tube being twisted to form a tortuous pas- 1 sage slightly reduced in area at one or more points, so as to cause a retardation in the travel of the ball or carrier, yet capable of expanding to permit the passage of the latter.
In order that the invention may be clearly 2c understood,reference is made to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, and in which-- Figure 1 is aperspective view of a ball-carrier assumed to be traveling down a frame from a higher to a lower level and just about to enter the retarding-tube. and the ring is then secured to the framework; or, if the rings are a permanent part of the frame, the net-work may be stretched and twisted and lashed thereto.
The amount of twist and the length of the tube will naturally vary, depending upon the weight of the ball-carrier and the amount of drop below the track E that it is desired to deal with. A net-work tube about four inches in diameter and two yards long with a double twist has been found to give good re sults when dealing with aball carrier of three and one-fourth to three and three-fourth inches diameter. 1
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- In a cash or parcel carrier apparatus, a retarding-tube of flexible material twisted to form a contracted tortuous passage therethrough, substantially as and for the purpose setforth.
