LEO EHRLIOH, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO THE AMERICAN ROLL PAPER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
PAPR-CUTTER.
BPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 390,073, dated September 25, 1888.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, LEO EHRLICH, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in PaperOutters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to theaccompanying` drawings, forming` part of this specilieation, and in whichlo Figure I is a side elevation of my improved paper-cutter. Fig. II is an end view. Fig. III is an end view of a modification.
My invention relates t0 an improvement in paper-cutters; and it consists in features ofnovelty, hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring,` to the drawings, l represents a suitable base, and 2 ends or standards which are secured to the base in which the roller l0 2o is journaled, and which are provided with lugs 3, as shown.
4 represents a knife, having ends 5 preferably formed in one piece with the knife, and which fit against the standards 2, and are held in place by the Iues 3, which embrace them, but in which they fit loosely, so as to allow the knife to fall by gravity as the paper is removed, and to allow the knife to be lifted out for the purpose of sharpening` it or replacing 3o it by another. The knife rests upon the roll of paper, and as the paper is removed it automatically feeds or moves downward by its own weight, thus producing` a cheap and effective machine. By forming the ends 5 in one part y with the blade no joint has to be made between them and the blade, but all that is necessary to do is to bend the extremities of the blade to form the ends.
In Fig. III, I have shown a modification, where the lugs 3 consist of rollers journaled to to the ends or standards 2, and which are preferably plaeed in the form of a triangle, and are preferably arranged to throw the knife at an inclination, as shown.
I claim as my invention-u 1. In a paper-cutter, the combination of the ends in which the roller isjournaled and which are provided with an upper and lower series of lugs, and a knife having ends and moving in the lugs, substantially as and for the pur- 5o pose set forth.
2. In a papercutter, the combination of the ends forming asupport for the roller and having` lugs, and the knife movably and removably seeured to the ends by tting between said lugs, so as to move by gravity as the paper is taken from the roller, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
LEO EHRLIOH.
In presence of GEO. H. KNIGHT, EDWD. S. KNIGHT.
