IRON WORK FOR HORIZONTAL DISPLACABLE WINGS OF WINDOWS, DOORS ORSIMILA THINGS t The present invention relates to a suspension means for windows, doors or the like which permits opening or closing in a horizontally displaceable manner along a fixed guide rail. The suspension means permits insulating in the closed position against influences of weather. During opening, the suspension means is movable in a plane parallel to the frame being closed while the structure being supported. i.e. the window, door or the like. moves horizontally, upwardly and out of insulating contact with the frame. Correspondingly. during closing, the structure being supported moves by its weight horizontally, downwardly and into insulating contact, i.e. closed position with the frame. Thus, the threshold portion of the frame defining. for example. a door frame, may be simply the floor with the bottom portion of the structure being supported contacting same in the closed position.
Numerous constructions are available to the prior art which achieve closing of a door, for example, by movement in a horizontally and downwardly displaceable fashion. However, the means used to accomplish such displacement often requires complex wormwheel transmissions or the like which are difficult to operate and expensive; or alternately comprise a simple running surface slanted at an angle of 45 relative the floor. In the latter construction, although simple, there exists the shortcoming that a great part of the weight of the door must be lifted by one attempting such an opening. In situations involving heavy doors, safety also becomes a factor. Closing of heavy doors also presents various shortcomings in angle lifts in that the guide wheels will tend to slide rather than roll thereby using the guide wheels in a wrong fashion.
The present invention overcomes many of the shortcomings of the prior art devices.
Generally stated, the present invention includes a railprofile having over and under rails with a transversing means disposed therebetween. The transversing means has a H-shape configuration with upper and lower flanged wheels which respectively contact the over and under rails. Projecting parallel of the rails and from near the center of the H-shape configuration are bearing surfaces which project and support within arcuate cut-outs of a lever-installation. The leverinstallation joins, on one side to the structure being supported while on the opposite end thereof to a frame supporting a runner wheel. The runner wheel travels in a special track which parallels that of the under rail. The special track is characterized with a cut-out notch at the closed position. Movement of the runner wheel into the cutout notch coupled with the weight of the suspended structure causes the lever-installation to lower, i.e. the bearing surfaces move to the upper portion of the cut-outs such that the suspended structure is caused to move horizontally, downwardly, and into closed position with the frame.
The present invention provides a reliably working structure during displacing movement of a door, window or the like during opening and closing. A stable structure is provided which operates very smoothly while providing a solid construction even in use with large size doors. The present structure can be constructed of any suitable material.
The suspended structure may be equipped with a handle which affords a means for opening or closing same. The guide-rail provides the means for permitting the suspended structure to travel in an exact manner while assuring that the suspended structure will not move by itself out of closed position.
The straight over-under guide-rails receive runningwheels at the top-sideand the bottom-side, the running-wheels being provided with groove and run surfaces. Also, the running-wheels are equipped with bearings, axles of which are disposed at a angle with the rails thereby providing a steady center of rotation.
Projecting from a I-I-shaped configuration which supports the running-wheels are bearing surfaces projecting parallel to the rails. These bearing surfaces engage arcuate cut-outs in the lever-installation permitting the lever-installation to move in respect to the guide-rails along a defined arc.
The closing sequence proceeds by moving the smooth surface running-wheel on the lever-installation to the special groove. During progressive descent therein, the running-wheel comes to rest on the lower surface while at the same time the lever-installation moves downwardly and toward the frame, i.e. by means of the arcuate cut-outs. Because the suspended window, door or the like is joined to the lever-installation, it simultaneously moves to closing position adjacent the frame. The reverse movement takes effect during opening. Opening and closing may be accomplished manually, by electrical power, or by pneumatic means as desired.
The present invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description taken with the figures wherein:
FIG. 1 is a vertical sectional view taken along sectional line II of FIG. 4 illustrating the present guiderail roller suspension in closed position;
FIG. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the guide-rail roller suspension in open position;
FIG. 3 is a partial vertical sectional view taken along sectional lines II'II of FIG. 4; and
FIG. 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken along sectional lines III-III of FIG. 1.
FIGS. 1 and 2 illustrate the guide-rail roller suspension of the present invention in open and closed positions respectively. Box 1 illustrates a frame member having joined thereto a stacking frame 2. Upper rail 6 and under rail 5 are joined to inner surfaces of box I and are disposed to represent a running surface for wheels 15 and 16 respectively.
Suspended member 3 supporting a door, window. or the like, is equipped with elastic insulating member 4. Lever-installation 7 joins to suspended member 3 and encloses on opposite sides guide-rail 8. Guide-rail 8 has an H-shape configuration for retaining upper and lower wheels 6 and 5 in position. Lever-installation 7 includes a smooth surface wheel 9 which runs along a surface in the open position and proceeds to a lower groove 10 on surface 11 when traveling to the closed position. Smooth surface wheel 9 is supported within leverinstallation 7 by means of axle 13.
Guide-rail 8 has bearing 12 projecting from opposite sides thereof in a direction about parallel to the rails 5 and 6. Bearing 12 rotates about axles 21 and provides support surfaces with arcuate slots 14. The arcuate slots and bearings effect closing when wheel 9 travels to groove '10.
Nylon wheels and 16 supported by axles l7 and 18 are equipped with grooves which run on mating surfaces of rails 5 and 6.
In FIG. 3., wheel 9 is illustrated in groove H). The groove has a progessively descending slope 20 and a brake-surface 19. Lower surface 11 may be separately attached to support the groove if the member of the groove is sufficiently thick, the lower surface then becomes integral part of the groove. Although one groove is illustrated. in an embodiment. a double size slot may be used to receive double wheels 9 adjacent one another with a single size slot forwardly disposed to receive a single wheel 9. Thus, upon passing the single size slot by the two adjacent wheels, they bridge the single size slot without restriction.
The composed units are fastened to the suspended member 3 with setbolts 22.
