ATTORNEY 1 ADJUSTABLE WlGS This invention relates to wigs. lt particularly relates to wig caps having means for reducing the headsize of the caps.
Wigs, as presently constructed, are provided with caps having stretch fabric foundations. These stretch foundations were believed to give users sufficient adjustability of the cap to provide a proper and comfortable fit. However, it has been found that with the present cap constructions it is not possible to provide a proper and comfortable fit for many users, particularly those whose head sizes are smaller than would be accommodated by a traditional cap construction of 22 inches in circumference. For users with such smaller head sizes, the wig feels uncomfortable and fits improperly.
It is, accordingly, an object of the present invention to provide means for reducing the headsize of wig caps.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide means for reducing the head size of the wig caps, which means are easily secured to the wig and are not exposed when in use.
These and other objects of the present invention may be readily ascertained by referring to the following description and appended illustrations in which:
FIG. 1 is a side view of the inner portion of a stretch foundation of a wig cap showing the means for reducing the headsize of the wig cap, said means being in an open position.
FIG. 2 is the same as FIG. 1, but shows the reducing means in a closed position.
Referring now to the drawings, the wig cap has a stretch foundation 11 to which a pair of fastener bands, 12 and 13 are attached in linear relationship. The bands may be attached by stitching or gluing. Band 12 is attached in a fixed position to the stretch foundation. Band 13 is attached to the stretch foundation at its end 14 furthest away from band 12. Band 12 may be constructed of an elastic or non-elastic material. Band 13 is constructed of any suitable elastic fabric and is of such length and elasticity that, when stretched, the end nearest band 12 can be pulled over to be brought into contact with band 12 along the entire length of band 12. Preferably, the bands are about 3% inches long and about 1 inch wide, but these dimensions can be varied. The exposed surface of band 12 and the surface of end 15 facing the surface of band 12 are provided with mating strips of woven tape fasteners manufactured by Velcro Corporation, New York, NY. and described. in U.S. Pat. Nos. 2,717,437; 3,009,235; 3,009,235; 3,076,244; 3,130,111; 3,147,528; 3,192,589; and 3,387,345. The book or male section on end 15 is covered with stiff little hooks. The loop or female section on band 12 is covered with tiny, soft loops. However the male or female sections can be reversed. In using the reducing means of the present invention, the male fastener 15 is hooked to the female section on band 12 until the proper fit is obtained. When pressed together, the hooks and loops engage, creating an adjustable, highly versatile and secure closure. To open, the tapes are simply peeled apart.
If desired, several pairs of fastener bands may be attached to the stretch foundation. This will provide greater facility in reducing the size of the wig cap. These pairs may be attached in linear relationship with each other, or one pair may be placed above the other.
We claim:
1. Means for reducing the size ofa wig cap in combination with a stretch foundation fitting on the head, said means comprising a pair of fastener bands which are attached in linear relationship to the stretch foundation, one of said fastener bands being in a fixed position and the second being attached only at its end furthest from the fastener band that is in the fixed position, said second band being constructed of elastic material and so positioned that its free end may be pulled over the fixed fastener band, the exposed surface of the fixed band and the surface of the free end of the second fastener band being provided with mating strips of woven tape fasteners, one of said strips having stiff hooks and the other soft loops.
2. The means according to claim 1 wherein the strip of the woven tape fastener having the hooks is on the free end of the second fastener and the strip having the soft loops is on the fixed fastener band.

Claims (2)

1. Means for reducing the size of a wig cap in combination with a stretch foundation fitting on the head, said means comprising a pair of fastener bands which are attached in linear relationship to the stretch foundation, one of said fastener bands being in a fixed position and the second being attached only at its end furthest from the fastener band that is in the fixed position, said second band being constructed of elastic material and so positioned that its free end may be pulled over the fixed fastener band, the exposed surface of the fixed band and the surface of the free end of the second fastener band being provided with mating strips of woven tape fasteners, one of said strips having stiff hooks and the other soft loops.
2. The means according to claim 1 wherein the strip of the woven tape fastener having the hooks is on the free end of the second fastener and the strip having the soft loops is on the fixed fastener band.
