UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JAMES WILSON BRIDWELL, OF HIIJLSBOROUGH, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE STAR MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF OHIO.
PACKAGE-=CARRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 384,558, dated June 12,1888.
Application filed November 4, 1887. Serial .No. 254,290. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I. JAMES WI lsoN BRID- WELL, acitizen of the United States, residing at Hillsborongh, in the county of Highland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and usefulImprovementsinPackage-Carriers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to make a package carrier which shall be simple, easy of manipulation, and comparatively inexpensive.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective View of my carrier with a package made fast thereto; Fig.2, a side elevation of the package-support, and Fig. 3 an end view.
In the drawings, A represents the support upon which the package is placed, and B B the two cords by which it is secured.
The support A is made, preferably, with the concavity a, but not necessarily, while the ends a a may be made horizontal, or nearly so. It is provided with one or more V-shaped slots, (1 in each end, and in rear thereof with Through the latter pass the two holes, a a
each may be secured in the two crossing slots.
I am aware that-cords and a handle-support for packages have long been in public use; but there has been an upward curve at each end, a single loop-c0rd, a cordnotch on top of handle, and vertical end slots employed. I use none of these devices in a package-carrier, and
The characteristic features which I claim, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, are- Apackage-carrier consisting of a handle and two cords, said handle having horizontal ends to lie flat 0n the package, V-shaped end grooves, and pairs of cord-holes adjacent to the latter, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES WILSON BRIDWELL.
