Claims (9)
1. A grinding machine for generating a surface of revolution on a workpiece by use of an abrasive wheel, comprising: a. a base, b. a workhead mounted on the base for supporting and rotating the workpiece about the axis of the surface of revolution, c. a wheelhead mounted on the base for supporting and rotating the abrasive wheel about its axis, d. a feed box containing electrical circuitry for controlling relative movement of the workhead and wheelhead both parallel to and perpendicular ro the said axis of the surface of revolution in accordance with predetermined grinding parameters to produce a grinding cycle, the circuitry containing adjustable elements for setting the said parameters, e. a first circuit board means insertable in the feed box to render the said adjustable elements operative, and f. a second circuit board means insertable in the feed box to render the said adjustable elements inoperative and to substitute in the said electrical circuitry fixed elements in place of the adjustable elements.
2. A grinding machine as recited in claim 1, wherein the second circuit board is insertable in the feed box in place of the first circuit board.
3. A grinding machine as recited in claim 1, wherein the electrical circuitry is rendered normally inaccessible.
4. A grinding machine as recited in claim 1, wherein the adjustable elements are always accessible, irrespective of whether they are operative or inoperative.
5. A grinding machine as recited in claim 1, wherein the adjustable elements consist of resistors whose resistance can be adjusted in discrete steps, and wherein the fixed elements can be readily changed to have values corresponding to values to which the resistance of the adjustable elements have been adjusted.
6. A grinding machine as recited in claim 5, wherein each adjustable element is associated with a particular function in the grinding cycle and there is a corresponding fixed element on the second circuit board to produce the same function.
7. A grinding machine as recited in claim 6, wherein each fixed element consists of a series of resistors connectable by jumpers to produce a total resistance equal to the desired value equal to the value of the resistance in its corresponding adjustable element.
8. A grinding machine as recited in claim 7, wherein a corresponding pair of adjustable element and fixed element is connected into the feed box electrical circuitry to control the functions of STANDARD COMPENSATION, FIRST-SIZE RETRACTION, and FINISH SPARK-OUT TIME.
9. A grinding machine as recited in claim 8, wherein a said corresponding pair are also connected to control the functions of NEW WHEEL COMPENSATION, SECOND-SIZE RETRACTION, ROUGH SPARK-OUT TIME, FINISHING TIME, LOW-FORCE TIME, LOW FEEDBACK LIMIT, HIGH FEEDBACK LIMIT, SECOND SIZE, RATE NO. 1, and RATE NO. 2.
