UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY l3. MAXWVELL, OF ROME, NEW YORK.
GAG-RUNNER.
@PECIFICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 381,400, dated April 17, 1888.
Application filed February 13, 1588. Serial No. 263,770.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LHARRY B. MAXWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rome, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gag-Runners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in that class of devices known as gag-runners? for bridles; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the same,as will be hereinafter fully explained, and pointed out in the appended claim.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which- Figure 1 represents a front view of my de vice. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the frame to which t-heloop or gag-runner is attached. This frame consists of the curved side bars, a, having inwardly-extending ends I), between which is a space, a, forming a passage for the strap d, whereby the same can be readily detached from the frame without drawing said strap out endwise. This frame is provided with a (No model.)
central cross-bar, e, which connects the side bars to one another, and depending from this bar 6 is an eye,f, adapted to receive the up per end of the runner. The bar e is further provided on its rear face with a stud, g, which passes through a perforation in the strap and serves to hold the frame thereto.
It will be seen that the side bars, cross-bar, stud, and inwardly-projecting ends thereof, as well as the depending eye,are formed integral, and that the passage between the inwardly-projeeting ends permits the strap to be adjusted or the device entirely removed witlr out lengthwise manipulation of said strap. thereby providing a quick and simple way of attaching the device to a bridle. At the same time it is ornamental, durable, and cheap to manufacture.
\Vhat I claim is- The improved gag-runner herein described, consisting of side bars terminating in open ings at their ends, and connected by a crossbar provided with a depending eye and a pro jecting stud, and a. runner pivoted in said eye, all substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY B. MAXWELL.
