A toilet utensil for invalids comprising a combination of a buttocks seat and a bedpan, said buttocks seat comprising a bottom plate integrally formed with a buttocks rest provided on the upper surface of said bottom plate. The bottom plate is a flat plate having a transverse length substantially sufficient to hold the buttocks of an invalid thereon and a longitudinal length slightly greater than said transverse length, said bottom plate being provided with a handle at the front edge thereof and a guide roller at the rear edge thereof, respectively. The buttocks rest is continuously formed from said bottom plate so as to protrude to a required height, a hollow portion being provided in the buttocks rest so as to enable a bedpan to be detachably inserted thereinside from the front opening of said buttocks rest, a well of a required length being formed on the upper surface of said buttocks rest extending from the front edge toward the rear edge thereof, said buttocks rest being formed in such shape as will comfortably receive the buttocks of an invalid thereon. The bottom plate is a flat plate having a transverse length substantially sufficient to hold the buttocks of an invalid thereon and a longitudinal length slightly greater than said transverse length, said bottom plate being provided with a handle at the front edge thereof and a guide roller at the rear edge thereof, respectively.
The buttocks rest is continuously formed from said bottom plate so as to protrude to a required height, a hollow portion being provided in the buttocks rest so as to enable a bedpan to be detachably inserted thereinside from the front opening of said buttocks rest, a well of a required length being formed on the upper surface of said buttocks rest extending from the front edge toward the rear edge thereof, said buttocks rest being formed in such shape as will comfortably receive the buttocks of an invalid thereon.
The bedpan detachably insertable into the hollow portion of the buttocks rest is provided with an opening in a position coinciding with the well of said buttocks rest, a member for fixing a urinal pad being mounted on the upper surface of the basal end portion of said bedpan.
7 Claims, 4 Drawing Figures TOILET UTENSIL This invention relates to toilet utensil for invalids, particularly for those who have difficulty in walking.
A first object of this invention is to enable an invalid to have urination or evacuation comfortably with the buttocks held in a slightly uplifted position thereby pre venting said buttocks from a direct contact with the bedpan.
A second object of this invention is to enable an invalid to urinate or evacuate comfortably in bed, the evacuation being perfectly received into the'bedpan without the risk of soiling the bedclothes, the evacuation being disposable readily and sanitarily thereby releasing both invalids and nurses from the greatest inconveniences otherwise experienced by them.
A third object of this invention is to provide a toilet utensil comprising a buttocks seat and a bedpan formed with a synthetic resin and producible readily and at a moderate cost.
A fourth object of this invention is to provide a toilet utensil in which a member for fixing a urinal pad is mounted on a bedpan insertable into the hollow portion at the lower part of the buttocks rest, thereby enabling to easily pass a member, such as paper and the like, between the thighs of an invalid, such urinal pad enabling to perfectly collect into the chamber pot urination arising simultaneously with evacuation without the risk of said urination being spilled or splashed about.
This invention is described in detail hereinunder in reference to the annexed drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is an elevation showing the state of use of the toilet utensil according to this invention, of which a part is broken away;
FIG. 2 is a plan showing the state of use of said toilet utensil;
FIG. 3 is a perspective of a buttock seat; and
FIG. 4 is a perspective of a bedpan in use for this invention.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a buttocks seat, said buttocks seat 1 comprising a bottom plate 2 and a buttocks rest 3 erected on the upper surface of said bottom plate 2.
The buttocks seat 1 comprises a bottom plate 2 and a buttocks rest 3 integrally formed together by means of the blow molding method or the like making use of a synthetic resin. Said bottom plate 2 is formed in a flat plate having a transverse length and a longitudinal length substantially suffcient to hold the buttocks of an invalid thereon, said longitudinal length being slightly greater than said transverse length.
At the rear edge of the bottom plate, a guide roller 5 is pivoted in a notched portion 4, said roller 5 facillitating insertion of the buttocks seat under the buttocks of an invalid. Furthermore, a handle 6 is provided at the front edge-of the bottom plate.
The buttocks rest 3 projecting to the central part of said bottom plate 2 comprises an upperwall 9 extended over an exterior vertical wall 7 U shape erected on the bottom plate 2 with its open end directed toward the front edge and an interior vertical wall 8 erected on the inside of said exterior vertical wall 7.
A well 10 of a required depth being formed in said upper wall 9 extending from the front edge toward the rear edge thereof, the upper surface of said upper wall 9 being elevated at both sides thereof and given such smooth curvature that the rear end decends gradually thereby ehabling the waist and the buttocks of an invalid to be held comfortably.
The front side of the interior vertical wall 8 is in an openv state for receiving a interior vertical a space 11 for detachable insertion of a bedpan being formed between the upperwall 9 and the front edge portion of the bottom plate that is enclosed by the exterior vertical wall and the interio vertical wall, the peripheral edge of the well 10 in the upper wall 9 projecting over said space 11 in the shapeof a flange.
On the front peripheral edge of the bottom plate 2 is continuously formed a projecting wall 12 projecting to a required height, each end of said projecting wall 12 reaching the exterior vertical wall thereby preventing leakage from the surface of the bottom plate 2.
Moreover, the bedpan 13 is of such size that said bedpan 13 is detachably insertable into the space 11 of the buttocks rest 3 on the bottom plate 2 of the buttocks seat 1, said bedpan 13 being formed in the shape of a hollow vessel as shown in FIG. 4 by means of the blow molding method or the like making use of a synthetic resin. The upper wall of said bedpan has a front part that is a tier lower, said lower front part being provided with an opening 14. The opening 14 is adapted to be positioned precisely under the well 10 of the buttocks rest 3 when inserted into the space 11 of said buttocks rest 3, saidopening being oval in shape. A handle 15 is erected on the upper surface of the basal end portion of the bedpan.
In addition thereto, a projection 16 is erected on each side of the midway portion of the upper surface of the bedpan l3. Said projections 16 are provided with the object of positioning the bedpan 13 so that the opening 14 thereof is positioned precisely under the well 10 of the buttocks rest when said bedpan 13 is inserted into the space 11 of said buttocks rest. Therefore, said projections 16 are adapted to have a height sufficient to come into contact with the front edge of the buttocks rest.
A holder 18 ofa fixing member 17 of a urinal pad is erected on each side of the upper surface of the bedpan adjacent the basal end thereof. Said fixing member 17 comprises wire, such as piano wire and the like, said wire being bifurcated into an upliftable lever 19, an openable clip 20 equipped with a built-in spring being mounted at the front end of said lever 19. A bend is provided at each end of the upliftable lever 19, said bend being fitted into a transverse hole 21 of each holder 18.
Said bends are given an outwardly extending force prior to insertion into the transverse holes of the holders 18 thereby enabling the upliftable lever 19 to be halted at any required uplifted position.
The upliftable lever 19 is provided with a clip 20 at the front end thereof, said clip 20 securing the upper edge of a urinal pad 22 comprising paper, a synthetic resin sheet or the like, said urinal pad 22 covering the part between the thighs of an invalid lying on the buttocks rest 3. Furthermore, said urinal pad 22 not only prevents the urination of the invalid from splashing about, but also helps said urination flow into the bedpan guided by the urinal pad since the lower edge thereof is inserted into the opening 14 of the bedpan 13.
The toilet utensil for invalids according to this invention comprises a construction as described hereinbefore, and the use of said toilet utensil is explained hereinunder.
When an invalid wants to urinate or defecate, a nurse inserts a buttocks seat 1 under the buttocks of the in valid from between the opened thighs of said invalid in a state wherein said buttocks are slightly uplifted.
Then, when the buttocks of the invalid settles on the inserted-buttocks rest 3 of the buttocks seat 1, an independent bedpan 13 is inserted into the space 11 below the buttocks rest 3 in a state wherein the urinal pad fixing member 17 is uplifted. If the bedpan 13 is inserted until the projections 16 come into contact with the buttocks rest 3, the opening 14 of the bedpan is positioned precisely under the well of the buttocks rest 3 as shown in FIG. 2.
In this state, the upper edge of the urinal pad 22 is folded back and inserted into the clip 20, the lower edge thereof being left to hang down into the opening 14 of the bedpan, said urinal pad 22 being arranged to cover the part between the thighs of the invalid. The urinal pad 22 is adjustable by adjusting the angle of the upliftable lever 19 as shown in FIG. 1.
Evacuation is received in the bedpan the well 10 and through the well 10 and the opening 14, urination being also received in said bedpan l3 guided the'uiiifii pad 22.
After the evacuation, the bedpan 13 is removed by drawing it out, the buttocks seat being then drawn out while the buttocksof the invalid are slightly uplifted. The urinal pad 22 is removed by releasing the clip 20, the evacuation together with said urinal pad received inside the bedpan being suitably disposed of.
As described hereinbefore, the toilet utensil for invalids according to this invention comprises a leakproof bottom plate 2, a buttocks seat 1 on said bottom plate 2, provided with a buttocks rest 3 having a space 11 for inserting a bedpan thereinto, and a bedpan 13 detachably insertable into said space 11 of the buttocks seat 1, each said member being formed by means of the blow'molding method or the like making use of a by a resin, with the result that the toilet utensil of this invention can be provided at a moderate price since said toilet utensil is producible by a very simple process and on a mass production basis, a further advantage being that said toilet utensil is very convenient not only for use for invalids but alsofor transportation because of the light weight thereof.
Furthermore, the toilet utensil of the invention enables an invalid to use it not only in a state of lying on his back which is the most comfortable posture for the invalid, but also in a state of lying on his right or left side, as a result of which the toilet utensil of this invention releases invalids and nurses from the greatest inconvenicences otherwise experienced by both said parties.
Since the toilet utensil of this invention prevents the buttocks of an invalid from coming into direct contact with the bedpan, not only evacuation can be effected comfortably without any sense of filth but also the evacuation is disposable sanitarily. Moreover, since a urinal pad fixing member is mounted on the bedpan insertable under the buttocks rest, the part between the thighs of an invalid can be covered with a member comprising paper, a synthetic resin, or the like, with the result that urination arising with evacuation can be directed into the bedpan by means of said urinal pad. Thus, the toilet utensil of this invention has a distinct advantage in that said toilet utensil prevents the bedclothes from being soiled by spilled or splashed urination, the leakproof property of the bottom plate 2 further ensuring sanitariness of said toilet utensil.
What is claimed is:
l. A toilet utensil for invalids comprising a combination of a buttocks seat and a bedpan:
a. Said buttocks seat comprising a bottom plate and a buttocks rest integrally provided on the upper surface thereof, said bottom plate having a dimension substantially sufficient to receive the buttocks of an invalid thereon, the buttocks rest being formed continuously from the so as plate soas to protrude to a required height, said buttocks rest having an open front and a hollow portion thereinside allowing detachable insertion of a bedpan thereinto, furthermore a well of a required'depth being formed on the surface of said buttocks rest extending from the front edge toward the rear edge thereof, said buttocks rest beingformed in such shape as will receive the buttocks of an invalid Y comfortably;
b. said bedpan having a basal end portion and being detachably insertable into the hollow portion of the buttocks rest, an opening being provided on the bedpan in a position coinciding with the well of the buttocks rest, a fixing member for a urinal. pad being mounted on the upper surface of the basal end portion of said bedpan.
2. A toilet utensil for invalids as defined in claim 1,
a notch being formed at the rear edge of the bottom plate integrally formed with the buttocks rest, a guide roller being pivoted in said notched portion, a handle being provided at the front edge of said bottom plate, a projecting wall of a required height being erected on the peripheral edge of the front part of said bottom plate, each end of said projecting wall being adapted to continue to the exterior vertical wall of the buttocks rest.

A toilet utensil for invalids as denined in claim 1, wherein the buttocks rest integrally formed with the bottom plate comprises an upper wall extended over the upper side of a U-shaped exterior vertical wall erected with its opening directed toward the front edge of the bottom plate and of an interior vertical wall erected on the inside of said exterior vertical wall.

A toilet utensil for invalids as defined in claim 1, wherein the bedpan detachably insertable into the hollow portion of the buttocks rest has an upper wall that is a tier lower toward the front end from the midway part thereof, an opening being provided at said front end, on each side of the upper wall of the basal end portion of the bedpan being erected a holder for holding an upliftable lever on which a urinal pad is mountable, said holders upliftably holding the basal portion of the upliftable lever.
5. A toilet utensil for invalids as defined in claim 1, wherein an openable clip equipped with a built-in spring is mounted at the front end of an upliftable lever upliftably sustained on the upper wall of the bedpan.

A toilet utensil for invalids as defined in claim 1, wherein projections erected on the upper wall of the bedpan being adapted to come into abutment against the front edge of the buttocks rest so as to enable the opening of the bedpan to be positioned precisely under the well of the buttocks rest when said bedpan is inserted into the space of said buttocks rest.
7. A toilet utensil for invalids as defined in claim 1, the buttocks seat and the bedpan being formed by the low molding method making use of a synthetic resin.

Claims (7)

1. A toilet utensil for invalids comprising a combination of a buttocks seat and a bedpan: a. Said buttocks seat comprising a bottom plate and a buttocks rest integrally provided on the upper surface thereof, said bottom plate having a dimension substantially sufficient to receive the buttocks of an invalid thereon, the buttocks rest being formed continuously from the so as plate soas to protrude to a required height, said buttocks rest having an open front and a hollow portion thereinside allowing detachable insertion of a bedpan thereinto, furthermore a well of a required depth being formed on the surface of said buttocks rest extending from the front edge toward the rear edge thereof, said buttocks rest being formed in such shape as will receive the buttocks of an invalid comfortably; b. said bedpan having a basal end portion and being detachably insertable into the hollow portion of the buttocks rest, an opening being provided on the bedpan in a position coinciding with the well of the buttocks rest, a fixing member for a urinal pad being mounted on the upper surface of the basal end portion of said bedpan.

A toilet utensil for invalids as defined in claim 1, a notch being formed at the rear edge of the bottom plate integrally formed with the buttocks rest, a guide roller being pivoted in said notched portion, a handle being provided at the front edge of said bottom plate, a projecting wall of a required height being erected on the peripheral edge of the front part of said bottom plate, each end of said projecting wall being adapted to continue to the exterior vertical wall of the buttocks rest.

A toilet utensil for invalids as denined in claim 1, wherein the buttocks rest integrally formed with the bottom plate comprises an upper wall extended over the upper side of a U-shaped exterior vertical wall erected with its opening directed toward the front edge of the bottom plate and of an interior vertical wall erected on the inside of said exterior vertical wall.

A toilet utensil for invalids as defined in claim 1, wherein the bedpan detachably insertable into the hollow portion of the buttocks rest has an upper wall that is a tier lower toward the front end from the midway part thereof, an opening being provided at said front end, on each side of the upper wall of the basal end portion of the bedpan being erected a holder for holding an upliftable lever on which a urinal pad is mountable, said holders upliftably holding the basal portion of the upliftable lever.
5. A toilet utensil for invalids as defined in claim 1, wherein an openable clip equipped with a built-in spring is mounted at the front end of an upliftable lever upliftably sustained on the upper wall of the bedpan.

A toilet utensil for invalids as defined in claim 1, wherein projections erected on the upper wall of the bedpan being adapted to come into abutment against the front edge of the buttocks rest so as to enable the opening of the bedpan to be positioned precisely under the well of the buttocks rest when said bedpan is inserted into the space of said buttocks rest.
7. A toilet utensil for invalids as defined in claim 1, the buttocks seat and the bedpan being formed by the low molding method making use of a synthetic resin.
