Abstract
Anaglyphic printing is produced by forming a rigid relief plate, shadowing the shade sides of the rigid relief plate by spraying color thereat at an oblique angle from above, photographing the shadowed relief plate and producing the printing plate from such photograph. The rigid relief plate is formed by flowing tacky gypsum onto a flat gypsum plate to form the relief pattern thereon and then converting the resulting raised tacky gypsum relief into a rigid gypsum relief integral with the surface of the flat gypsum plate by drying the same. The flat gypsum plate may be produced as a block-copy by outlining on its surface the pattern to be formed thereon, and then applying the tacky gypsum according to the outlined pattern.

2 Claims, 4 Drawing Figures PATENTEI] APR 16 I974- METHOD OF MAKING ANAGLYPIIIC PRINTING PLATES BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE DRAWING.
Detailed Explanation Of The Invention The present invention is an improvement in a process for producing printed matter presenting appearance as embossed showing clearly the shadow of characters or designs thereon, and available for producing printed matter using relatively large letter and aiming at decorative effect such as label (for example, label for wine barrel, wine bottle, or various goods), share, bill paper, calendar, poster and the like. And besides, the invention is available for tin plate printing (printing for crown cap and can for packing) and out-door advertisement.
Heretofore, printed matters presenting anaglyphic appearnce applied skillfully with shadow on characters or designs thereof, have been carried out widely and are well known. As the conventional matters, however, are all written or pictured manually, they lack naturalness in embossment mode or anaglyphic mode, and also artistic or decorative effect. And, as original figure is written or pictured manually, a substantially skillful art is required to apply shadow and subsequently the cost of printed matter is increased. 1
The present invention is to improve the process on considering this point, and the detail of the invention will be explained referring to the drawing as follows.
Initially, required characters or designs are drawn on a gypsum plate 1.
As this is a so-called block copy, the characters are to be written with a strong stroke of pen, decorating various portions of the characters just like a picture.
And thereafter, a gypsum raised stripe 2 of required characters(or designs) is formed by flowing tacky gypsum from a cylindrical tube 3 onto the letter of the block copy. As gypsum is water soluble, a suitable tackiness may be obtained. When this gypsum raised stripe 2 is left as it is, then it is dried and hardened to form a raised rigid gypsum relief a integral with the gypsum plate 1.
And then, a black printing ink is sprayed against the gypsum relief a through the nozzle 4 of a sprayer from a fixed laterally oblique angle from above as shown in FIG. 4.
On the plane of the gypsum relief a are adhered fine particles of the black printing ink with uniform density and present gray color and one side of the exterior of the gypsum raised stripe is colored with the black printing ink such as lighter as nearing to the horizontal plane and darker as nearing to the vertical plane.
Namely, natural shadow is realized with the black 5 printing ink just as it is.
There is no unnaturalness such as shadow applied by writing or picturing, but natural shadow is presented as it is. The gypsum relief a so colored is photographed, and a printing plate formed with this photograph according to well known conventional processes is set in a printing machine and used to print.
A plate is made from a photograph of the gypsum relief a applied with natural shadow like this, and as the printed matter is produced therewith, and thereby the shadow in the printed matter is natural, in spite of that the surface is flat (refer to FIG. 2), the letter looks as embossed and also anaglyphic. And also, with photograph taken as above mentioned, offset printing and also movable type printing may be carried out. An anaglyphic pattern may be printed on a cloth by printing manually with a negative made from the photograph. The present invention is to form the rigid gypsum relief a having required raised letter or raised pattern produced by drawing required letter or pattern with tacky gypsum on a gypsum plate 1 and drying the same as above described, and to make plate with a photograph of the rigid gypsum relief a colored in natured shadow by spraying printing ink from a laterally oblique angle from above and also to print with the plate, so that natural shadow is presented in the characters or design and the contour of the characters or designs are embossed clearly and beautful as looks anaglyphically, and have a large artistic and decorative effect as printed matter such like label, calendar and the like.
We claim:
1. An improvement in a method for the production of an anaglyphic printing plate which comprises a. forming a relief plate,
b. shadowing the shade side of the relief pattern thereon by spraying color thereat at an oblique angle from above the plate,
c. photographing the shadowed relief and d. forming a printing plate from said photograph,
wherein the improvement comprises:
e. in step (a) I. forming the relief plate as a rigid relief plate by gypsum plate according to the outlined pattern.
Claims (1)
- 2. An improved method as claimed in claim 1, wherein f. in step (e) (I) the flat gypsum plate is prepared as a block-copy by outlining on the gypsum surface the pattern to be formed thereon, and g. in step (e) (II) the tacky gypsum is flowed onto the gypsum plate according to the outlined pattern.
