Abstract
The leg bands of men''s briefs curve inwardly to provide a concavity at the front part of the thigh so that the inguinal fold is left free and hence the leg band is not stretched when the leg is lifted and consequently there is no tension causing the rear portions of the leg band to ride up on the buttocks. Fullness is provided in the seat of the briefs by a curved seam which is concave outwardly so that the buttocks are always fully encased.

3 Claims, 2 Drawing Figures MEN'S BRIEFS, PARTICULARLY FOR SPORT The present invention relates to shorts or briefs and in particular to sport briefs.
The briefs that are presently worn have two symmetrical leg bands stretched on the thighs in a zone disposed below the external root of each thigh. Thus the entire portion of the brief comprised between each leg band and the forward external root of each thigh covers the inguinal fold of each groin and thereby causes a restriction of movement of the leg in particular in jumping or running where the thigh must be rapidly stretched and relaxed.
The foregoing inconvenience due to the covering of the groin by the brief results in a second disadvantage, namely the brief being stretched at the front to the level of the thigh is equally subjected to a tension at the rear and this tension causes the rear part of each of the leg bands to climb up so that the latter is placed across and cuts into the buttocks.
It is an objectof the brief according to the invention to avoid the foregoing inconveniences and to provide a garment that disengages the groin and the external root of the thigh and consequently totally covers the buttocks with the body of the brief.
In accordance with the invention a brief and in particular a sport brief is characterized by the fact that it has a cut-out such that each of the two leg bands encircling the respective thigh has at its forward part and in the center thereof a curved portion that is downwardly concave, thereby assuring disengagement of the groin and the external root of the thigh. This disengagement leaves the inguinal fold free.
The invention will be more fully understood from the following description of a presently preferred nonlimiting example illustrated in the drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a front view of a brief which is being worn, and
FIG. 2 is a three quarter rear view of the brief shown in FIG. 1.
the brief according to the present invention can be manufactured of all textiles utilized for undergarments. Such textiles can be made of a single base fiber or of a combination of a plurality of animal, vegetable or synthetic fibers.
Withreferenceto FIG. 1, the brief has leg bands 1 encircling the thighs of the wearer. At the front of the garment each leg has a cut-out portion such that at the front of each thigh and centrally of the latter the leg band 1 has a curved zone lb which is'concave downwardly so as to assure that the brief does not engage the groin '2 or the upper. portion 3 of the thigh. Hence the inguinal fold 4 is not engaged by the garment. It will be seen that in the concavely curved portion 1b the leg band is closer to the waist band 8 than at the outer portion of the thigh. Thus the forwardly located concave portion lb represents the portion of the leg band 1 that is closest to the waist band of the garment.
It will be understood that the body of the brief may be constructed in various ways. For example, the twoply curved front portion 5 of the garment may have an underflap 6 formed of at least one element. For example, two half underflaps are joined by the scams 7 to the body of the brief, these-seams extending from the leg bands 1 to the waist band 8. The shell 5 has a central seam 9.
Referring to FIG. 2 the brief according to the invention has one central panel 11 joined to side panels 13 by curved seams 10. Each of the curved seams 10 extends across the respective buttocks from a part 8a of the waist band in the neighborhood of the posteriorsuperior iliac prominence to the rear part of the leg band 1 which encircles the thigh at a point in the neighborhood of the inner quarter of the gluteal fold. Thus in contrast with the briefs presently available in which tension in the forward part of the brief causes the rear part of the leg band to ride up on the buttock, the brief according to the invention permits, by the avoidance of the pulling and by the presence of a surplus of material provided by each of the curved seams 10, a total enclosure of each buttock within the body of the brief. Thus as is represented in FIG. 2, the two leg bands 1 are disposed respectively under each buttock and thus permit the latter to be fully embraced in the garment.
The contour of each of the curved seams I0 is essentially that of a half parabola with a rearwardly external concavity of which the radius of curvature decreases from the portion 8a of the waist band toward the portion 1a of the leg band, the upper part 10a of the seam 10 being essentially rectilinear.
Naturally the invention is not limited to the particular embodiment illustrated in the drawings and herein particularly described as it is possible to conceive diverse variations without departing from the essence of the invention.
