HYGIENIC APPLIANCE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The background of the invention will be set forth in two parts.
Field of the Invention The present invention pertains generally to the field of hygienic appliances, and more particularly to male contraceptive and prophylactic devices.
Description of the Prior Art As the population of the earth has increased tremendously in the last few decades, the problem of space and food to comfortably house and feed the populous has become more extreme. This crisis has given rise to many public and private agencies and groups being formed to study the problem and propose solutions.
Another related problem that has become even more important because of its immediate and devastating consequences is that of the unprecedented and ever increasing incidents of what are commonly called venereal diseases. Strains of these infections are now showing a high degree of resistance to conventional antibiotic treatment. It can therefore be understood why much effort is now being expended in education aimed at avoiding unwanted pregnancies and venereal diseases.
In response to these problems, various internally and externally worn devices have been developed, as well as the now very popular birth control formulations taken orally. The latter technique has proven very effective to control contraception but in many instances, exhibits undesired side effects and has no effect on infection. As to the devices mentioned above, one major group is worn internally by the female, and the other group is worn externally by the male. Like the orally introduced birth control techniques, the internal mechanisms have proved to be very successful in preventing unwanted conception, but provide no means for preventing the transmission of venereal disease from one partner to the other.
Although developed and used long before the other described methods, the male worn devices have not been popular because they are usually considered to be uncomfortable to wear, clumsy to apply, and difi'icult to remove. However, to date these devices are considered to be very effective to both prevent unwanted pregnancies and to lessen incidents of the transmission of venereal diseases. It should therefore be evident that a new and improved device that provides the beneficial aspects of the external, male-worn devices and yet are comfortable to wear and easy to don and remove, would constitute a significant advancement of the art.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In view of the foregoing factors and conditions characteristic of the prior art, it is a primary object of the present invention to provide a new and improved hygienic appliance that both helps prevent conception and reduces the incidents of the transmission of veneral disease.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an externally worn hygienic appliance that is easily applied and removed, and that is not tight and uncomfortable to wear.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a relatively simple and inexpensive hygienic appliance to be worn over the male genital organ.
Yet another object of the present invention is to pro vide a hygienic appliance that functions both as a contraceptive and as a prophylactic device.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hygienic appliance that may incorporate a prosthetic arrangement supporting and imparting rigidity to the male genital organ to enable and assist in maintaining sexual intercourse where the male genital organ lacks the necessary physical characteristics.
Still a further object of the present invention is to provide a hygienic appliance that effectively and safely eliminates fecundation during copulation while preventing the transmission of venereal infection, and also acts as a mechanical aphrodisiac.
According to the present invention, the hygienic appliance includes a resilient and flexible unitary body construction having an elongated thin-walled tubular portion with a rounded closed end portion and an open end, and also having a thin-walled scrotum sack portion internally a part of and depending from the tubular portion immediately adjacent the open end of the tubular portion. The sack portion includes an opening communicating with and being a part of the tubular portions open end, and the interior of the sack portion communicates with the interior of the tubular portion.
The sack portion of the appliance may include a plurality of relatively shallow folds to allow expansion of the volume of its interior for comfortably housing a male scrotum. A cartilaginous elongated strip may be integrally formed along the longitudinal axis of the tubular portion as an aid to penial erection.
The features of the present invention which are believed to be novel are set forth with particularity in the appended claims. The present invention, both as to its organization and manner of operation, together with further objects and advantages thereof, may best be understood by making reference to the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing in which like reference characters refer to like components in the several views.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING FIG. 1 is a perspective illustration of a hygienic appliance constructed in accordance with the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a top view of the appliance seen in FIG. 1; and
FIG. 3 is a sectional view showing a portion of the appliance of FIG. 1.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Referring now to the drawing and more particularily to FIG. 1, there is shown a hygienic appliance I] having a resilient and flexible unitary body construction with an elongated thin-walled tubular portion 13. The tubular portion 13 is dimensioned to comfortably receive and fit over and house a male penis, and has a rounded closed end 15 and an open end 17. The appliance 11 also includes a scrotum sack portion 19 integrally a part of and depending from the tubular portion 13 immediately adjacent the open end 17. As best seen in FIGS. 1 and 2, the sack portion 19 includes an opening communicating with and is actually a part of the tubular portions open end 17 to define an elongated opening 21, and the interior of the sack portion 19 communicates with the interior 23 of the tubular portion 13. The elongated opening 21 extends partially into the sack portion 19 and, due to the opening size and resiliency of the material, allows for easy entrance of both the male penis into the tubular portions interior 23 and the users scrotum into the sack portion 19.
The appliance 11 is preferably fabricated in a conventional molding process using well known rubber or synethetic flexible materials. Unlike conventional prophylactic devices having an appearance similar to the tubular portion 13, this portion is not adapted to be rolled or convoluted, and the thickness of the wall thereof is preferably greater than the prior art devices of the type described. The invention therefore tends to hold its shape to a degree allowing for the aforementioned ease of entrance, but not acting as a barrier to the males senses during copulation.
The scrotum sack portion 19 may also be fabricated with relatively shallow folds 25 to allow expansion of the volume of its interior 27. Thus, the introduction of the scrotum into the sack 19 through the opening 21 will cause the sack to enlarge somewhat while comfortably housing and protecting the scrotum from direct' I ent invention, a relatively stiff, but flexible, cartilaginous rib portion 51 may be provided along the top of the tubular portion 13 parallel to the longitudinal axis thereof. The rib portion 51 is illustrated in FIGS. 1-3 and is integrally formed with the appliance 11. This feature functions as a temporary prosthesis to aid those males who are incapable, for any reason, of attaining penial erection.
In accordance with still a further embodiment of the present invention, a relatively stiff ridge 61 may be integrally formed at the top of the tubular portion 13 im mediately adjacent the opening 21, as seen in F108. 1 and 2. The ridge 61 functions as an aphrodisiac and is designed to come into contact with and thereby stimulate a female partners clitoris. Although shown in the drawing, it should be understood that the ridge 61 and the rib portion 51 need not be included in all embodimerits and constructions of the present invention, but one or both may be incorporated to meet specific needs of individual users. Also, the invention may be fabricated in several sizes to accommodate the requirements of the purchasing public.
According to yet another embodiment of this invention, the peripheral dimension of the opening 21 may be provided which applies pressure to the dorsal vein at the base of the penis to restrict the flow of venal blood back to the body. ln this embodiment, the rib portion 51 is not needed because in most individuals this action tends to maintain blood in the males erectile tissues to thereby cause a normal and natural erection for purposes of copulation. In all embodiments of the invention except for the one including the rib 51, and the one last described, the appliance 11 may be worn under normal clothing, if desired.
From the foregoing it should be evident that the invention provides a new and improved hygienic appliance which is easy and comfortable to use and that functions both as an effective contraceptive and pro phylactic to help control fecundation and the transmission of veneral infection during copulation.
It is to be pointed out that the materials herein specified are not critical and any material having similar characteristics may be substituted for the material spe cifically identified. Although a limited number of em bodiments of the invention have been described in detail, it should be realized that modifications and other embodiments incorporating the inventive features may be constructed. Accordingly, it is intended that the foregoing disclosure and drawings shall be considered only as illustrations of the principles of this invention.
