FREDERICK A. FORBES, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
TIP FOR TELEPHONE-CORUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 375,280, dated December 20, 1887.
Application filed September 20, 1887. Serial No. 250,238. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern,.-
Be itknown that I, FREDERICK A. FORBES, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tips for Telephone- Cords, Etc. of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in an improved tip for telephone-cords, 85e., hereinafter fully described.
Figure l is an elevation of the tip with the cord placed therein ready for fastening. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the tip with the cord fastened therein, and Fig. 3 is an elevation of the tip before being bent at all.
The tip consists of a pin, C, adapted to enter a binding-post connected with two wings, B B. In practice the whole thing may be stamped out of sheet metal and the tip C formed by rolling or bending up that portion of the blank to forln a pin, as indicated in the drawlngs.
E represents a iiexible telephone-cord covered with insulating material, and F represents the saine cord stripped of its insulation.
To connect the cord with the tip a portion of the end of the cord is stripped of the insulation and placed within the wings B B, and
said Wings are forced together, so that they firmly clamp the end of the cord between them. Connection, however, is preferably made in the manner indicated in the drawings,in which the cord is placed between the wings B B,with the insulation extending in between said wings, and the stripped portion is passed over the base of the pin C and folded back upon the cords between the wings, whereby when said Wings are pinched together the stripped part of the cord is held in rrn contact with the base of the pin and with the inside of the wings, while aportion ofthe insulation is also clamped between the wings, thus making a stronger.
