Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALLEN B. WILSON, OF ,WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
PHOTOGRAPHlC-PLATE HOLDER.
Specification forming part of 'Letters Patent No. 37,252, dated December 23, 1862.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALLEN B. WILSON, of Waterbury, county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Funnel and Plate-Holder fora Photographic Camera; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact de scription thereof, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, making apart of this specication, and the letters of reference marked thereon, in which the same letter represents the same thing in each gure.
Figure l is a face view of my improved funnel. Fig. 2- is an outside view of the double channel-stem leading from the funnel to the throat of the plate-holder. Fig. 3 is a cut section of my improved funnel, showing the connection of the channels and faucets therewith. Fig. et is a back view of the improved plateholder and funnel adjusted. Fig. 5 is a cut section through the plate-holder and channel-stem, showing the throat and channels. Fig. 6 is a longitudinal cut section through the funnel and plate-holder when adjusted for USG.
These inventions are designed to be used with an d are improvements upon iheimproved photographic camera for which Letters Patent were recently granted me by the United States.
Letter A represents the shell of the funnel; B, the double channel stem; C, the key to the faucets; D, the mouth of the funnel, through which the developing-bath is given; E and E', the apertures for drawing oft' the baths; F and F', the channels of the stem; G, the frame of the plateholder; H, the negative-glass; I, the improved plate-holdin g the negative-glass in place; K, the throat; S, the mouth ofthe funnel through which the sensitizing-bath is given.
One object of my improvement is to prevent the injury liable to the picture, unless great care be used, from giving both baths through the same channel. By having separate chanA nels each bath may be given through a channel of its own, and there will be no occasion for the careful cleaning necessaryY when beth baths are given, and withdrawn through one channel, as speciiied in my previous patent.
The other improvement consists in securing the plateholding the nega-tiveglass in a fixed position, thereby getting rid ofthe snap-spring F, (shown in my former patent,) which was liable to break the glass if it were not true. The negative-glass I now insert from the front instead of the rear of the plate. A small pin or other common device will prevent its falling forward when in aperpendicular position, and the plate upon which itis laid will make it sufciently fiuid-tight for practical purposes in taking pictures.
The operation of my improved funnel and plate-holder is as follows Being ready to give the baths, insert stein B, containing the two channels, F and F', with which mouths D and S of funnel A directly communicate, into the aperture in frame G, whereby channel F' will be connected with throat K. The sensitizing-bath may then be given, the negativeglass and plate holding it being, of course, horizontal. By givin g funnel A a quarter-turn the negative-glass, and plate I, holding it, will be brought into a perpendicular position and the bath flow back into channel F', escaping into the vessel designed to receive it, not through mouth S, by which it was given, but through aperture E, the turning of key C having opened communication with it, which its faucetkept closed when the bath was given. Turn funnel A and stem B so as to bring channel F in communication with throat K andrepeat the process above described in giving the second bath, which will pass through mouth D and channel F and be drawn oft' through aperture E', as has been explained.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The double funnel and stem with separate channels, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose described.
2.l Securing the negative-glass in position in the manner and by means of a platefholder constructed and operatingsubstantially as described.
A. B. WILSON.
