UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEa THRAD-DELIVERING ATTACHMENT FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATIQN forming prit of Letters Patent No. 371,998, dated October Application tiled May 4, 1887. Serial No. 237,047. (No mr'del.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. WEST, of Braintree, in the eounty of N orl'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Device l'or Delivering Yarn, Twine, or Thread from Tubes, Quills, or Balls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is particularly adapted for the delivery ot' thread from a quill to a sewing-maehine.
In the accompanying drawings, in which simil-.tr letters ot' reference indicate like paris,
top of the tube E and down through it, it is delivered without revolving the tube or quill H, which contains so large a quali tity of thread that if it were revolved in delivering it the thread would be apt to break. By means of my device, therefore, the thread is delivered without unnecessary tension from a stationary uill.
l The ring C, hub C', and spokes C produce practically a concave buse for the ball ol'thread. The end of this ball restin f upon the spokes or base is convex in shape, and as the thread is Figure l is an elevation ol' my device. Fig. deliver ed from its outside it g1 ad ually dnnxn 2 is a vertical section ol' the saine. ishes 1n diameter and settles down into the A represents a portion ot an ordinary sewconeavlty formed by the spokes, delivering ing-machine, and l5 is an ordinary vertical pin or post secured to said portion.
is a ring, preferably metallic, C a hub dropped below said ring, and G C are spokes extending from said hub upward fr) the ring, and all constituting fir-enlar frame for the support ofthe thread.
the thread without the aid ola traveler or llier.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The hereinbeforedeserihed improved device for delivering yarn or thread l'roni tubes, quills, or balls, consisting, essentially, ot' the l) is a tubularstandard adapted to slip over ring or rim C, depressed 1. erforated hub C', the post B and to be secured thereto by the and spokes C", the whole constituting a conset-screw D. l cavity for the reception of the convex end of E is a tall tube extending upward from the ihe ball, the vertical tube E, set into the perhub C', which is perforated at C to receive it. foration in said hub and extending to a eon- F represents a ball of thread, yarn, or twine wound upon the quill H. rhe'quill is slipped over upon the tube E and the ball rests upon the portion G of the frame and within the ring or rim C. he thread is passed from the ball to the upper end of the tube E, down siderable height above the ball, and the tubular standard l), extending downward from said hub, the yarn or thread delivering directly from the outside ol' the ball to said tube E, su bstantiall yas and for the purpose set forth.
JOHN W. WEST.
through it, and out from the perforation 0in Elfitiiesses: the hub C to the sewing-maehine, as shown. HENRY TV. VILLIAMS, By carrying the thread from the ball to the J. M. HARTNEtrIr.
