Be it known that I, HERBERT W. BEAROE, a citizen of the United States, residingat New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hand-Rests, of which the following is. a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in hand-rests serviceable in writing, sketching,

painting, or in other occupations, as set forth in the following specification and claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows a hand-rest in use. Fig. 2 is a view of a pen-holder. Fig. 3 is a detail view of a rest. Fig. 4 is a detail view of a modified form of rest. Fig. 5 represents a modification.

Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.

In the drawings, the letter A designates a rod or bar of suitable rigid material. A band or attaching device, B, secures the bar A to the hand of the operator, as seen in Fig. 1. By having the band B of elastic material such as rubber-the band can be readily stretched into its proper position on the hand of the operator. WVhen attached to the hand, as seen in Fig. 1, the bar or rest A enables the hand to be supported and steadied on any suitable surface, such as a desk or table-top.

The letter D indicates an objectsuch, for example, as a pen-holder, pencil, or brush. The object D, as seen in Fig. 1, While being held in the hand can be steadied on the bar or rest A. An attaching devicesuch, for example, as an elastic band, Ecan secure the object D to the hand of the operator. The object D can thus be firmly and steadily held and accurately guided While in use. At the same time the hand of the operator will be steadied so that the hand can accomplish its work easily and steadily.

In order to fill the hollow caused by curving the fingers, as seen in Fig. 1, one or more filling objects-such as balls Ocan be attached to the rest A. In Fig. 4. the band or attaching device B has been removed; but it must be understood that an attaching device, B, should always be employed to secure the rest to the hand. WVhen the rest A, with filling objects B, is secured to the hand, the filling objects will rest in the hollow formed by curving the fingers toward the hand.

In Fig. 5 the attaching device B is made in the form of a ring or loop adapted to receive a finger of the operator. A loop, ring, or attaching device, F, on the rest or bar A, (Fig. 5,) may also be provided to receive the handle or object D. By passing one end of the handle D through the loop or attaching device F the handle or holder D will be steadied, While said handle D will still be free enough to be properly operated.

What I claim as new,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A hand-rest consisting of a bar or support, A, and an attaching device, B, substantially as set forth.

2. Ahand-rest consisting of a bar or support, A, an attaching device, B, and a filling object, O, substantially as set forth.

3. A hand-rest consisting of a bar or support, A, and an attaching device, B, in combination with an object or holder, D, adapted to engage the rest or support A, said object Dbeing provided with an attaching device, E, substantially as set forth.
