INGLINED PLANE PENDULUM POWER.
No. 370,820. Patented Oct. 4, 1887.
ENITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDBEVV J. BITTER, OF BAHWAY, NEW JERSEY.
lNCLlNED-PLANE PENDU-LUM -POWER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 1 l'0..3 70,820 dated October 4, 1887.
Application filed October 9, 1886. Serial No. 215,807.
tion.
My invention relates to an improvement in which a two-armed movablependulum operates in conjunction with an incline bar placed upon trusses or otherwise.
The object of the improvement is to convey or propel various articles, useful or novel, by
gradual incline and pendulum motive power,
the same being applied to moving toys, working clocks, carrying weight down inclines, &c. To attain this object I combine the two parts, Figures 1 and 2, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
The sameletters and figures refer to the same parts. 7
I construct my incline bar A, also my double-armed pendulum B, of any material suitable for the purpose. I suspend my doublearmed pendulum B with bearing-pins, as at E E, or with side bearing-rods, as at Fig. 8, or with cross bar or plate, as at Fig. 4, or any form adapted to the purpose.
B, Fig. 1, shows the movable double armed pendulum with bearing-pins E A, Fig. 2, shows the incline bar witha declining grade of about one and half inch to the foot, which is held in position by means of the suspending-rods D D, the same being attached to trusses O G or otherwise.
lModel.)
This causes the side arms at F F of the pendulum B to strike the sides of the incline bar A, the rebound of which throws the opposite arm ofthe pendulum B forward and down the incline A, the bearing -pins E E at the same time catching on the incline bar A and graduating step by step the oscillating and forward motion of the pendulum B down to the end. It will naturally suggest of itself, without any further explanation, that if the incline A is reversed the pendulum B will travel back to the place of starting.
I do not confine myself to any particular formfor the two-armed pendulum B or the bearings E E, nor do I claim any particular means for holding or supporting the incline bar A.
XVhat I do claim as my invention .is
The graduated pendulum-power described, comprising an inclined support and device, substantially as set forthhercin, provided with inwardly-projecting means for loosely engaging said inclined support, whereby on imparting a slight motion to said device it is caused to oscillatingly, by astep-by-step movement,
descend the incline, substantially as set forth.
