'lhe operation of myinvention is as follows: When in is desired to empty a eask, the bang is drawn and blie vent-piiae L 1's passed through the opening, and Ehe paeki ng-ring 01 gaskeb K 1's pressed againsta the eask around t11e sides ofthe outletopening. The entire faueefi is then pressed upwardly, so as to elign the outletopening of the spoub With oho opening in the cask. In order to Produce seid alignment, it; is neeessary tl1ab bhe horizontal portiou Z of Ehe vent-pipe L should be pressed up against the upper edge of the opening in the cask, as Shown in Fig. 3. The distance between the verbieal p01tion Zof the seid pipe L and the thiekest part of the beveled portion K of. the packing-ring K 'being slight1y less than the thickness Of' the stave of bhe cask, itwi1l be Seen filmt the seid rubber paeking-ring Will be eonipressed ab tl1e seid thickesb 011 beveled portion K When tl1e faucet is in posibion. 'Ihe distance between the vertical portion l of t;he pipe L and the beveled porbio n of the packing-ring may be varied to suit bhe thickness of the staves by screwing the said pipe L more or1ess into the Ing N. Having firmly wedged the npper edge of the bungg-opening between tl1e vent-pipe L and tl1e said thick portion f packing-ring K, I n0w engage the trunnions 0f the cam-lever D in a pair ofthealigned notches c in the slots C 0f the bifurcated proj ection B and foree tl1e lever-arm d toward the cask. The action then is as follows: Ehe camlever D being above und adjacent to the beveled ortion K of the packing-ring K, the act 01' n1oving the lever-ann d toward the cask fernes thebifurcated arm B from said cask, and the stave of the caskat the upperedge 0f the bnngnpening, being firmly clamped between tlie vertical portion Z 0f the vent-pipe and the said tl1ick portion K 0f the packingring K, it will be readily seen tl1at the lower portion of the packing-ring K will e0me in close contact with E118 said stave around tl1e opening therein and be compressed between tl1e rein end 0f the faucet and the said stave, thus forming a tigl1t joint. I provide in the slots C of the arms B notehes 0 0f difl"erent depths, t0 allow of the adjustment of the cam-lever D, it being 0bvious that deeper notches are necessary wl1en the faucet is applied to casks having thick staves than are neccssary when faucet is appli.ed to casks having thin staves. Having now firmly adjusted the faucet t0 the cask, said cask is rolled over nntil the faucetis 011 theside thereof and all is in readiness f0r operation. \Vhen the eutofi F is turned to the position indicated in Fig. 2, the ventI is opened, allowing the air t0 enter the duct O, ass throngh the opening in the 1ng N and up the pipe L int0 the interinr of the cask ab0ve the liquid. 'll1e said liquid then flows from the spout A in asteady stream, which maybe cut oft als any time withoutcausing any subsequent drippi ng.
If the pipe L is not 0f sufficient length t0 reach a point above the t0p 0f the liquid in the cask, an extension therefor xnay be added, as will be obvious.
\Vhen faucets 0f the ordinary constrnction a1e usedit is necessary to supply a vent in the cask by which ai1 1nay enter t0 allow the liquid contents t0 be withdrawn. Such vents not being provided with the means to elose them, flies, ants, &c., are adn1itted t0 tl1e cask. In my improved faucet the air-vent is only open during the actnal operation 0f drawing the said coutents, said vent being closed by tl1e cut-ofi f01 the faucet-spout.
Another advantage which my faucet possesses over th0se now in general use lies in the fact that the said vent is a part 0f the faucet. Therefore said vent is only in the cask when needed.
My faucet possesses still another advantnge, in that it is mach more readily and securely applied to a cask 01 barrel than is the case With othen faucets.
Having thns described the construction and operation of my invention, what I clailn, and desire to secureby Letters Patentof the United States, is-
l. In a bung-faucet, the combination 0f the spout A, having dnct 0 and vent'P, with the vent-pipe L, provided witl1 tl1e vertical portion l and the threaded end Z communicating with the duct O, the vertical anns B, slols C therein, notchcs c, of different depths, in the slots, cam-lever D, pmvided with the trannions E to fit in the slots and engage the noteh es, and -tl1e rnbber packingring K, provided w1th the beveled portion K, substantial'ly as and f0r tl1e purpose Set forth.
2 In a bung-faneet, the combination of a spout having an angular device, as L, counected ab 0ne end thereto and engaging witl1 t-he edges 0f the bung-openingin the cask, and a verticallyadjustable elamping-leverD having an adjustable fnlcrum-connection with the spout and bearing against the outer side of the caslc t0 draw the device L into close coutact Witl1 the cask, as and f01 the pnrpo se described.
3. In a bung-fancet, tl1e combination 0f a spout having an airduct, an angular venttube adjustably connected to the sp0ut and connnunicatingwith the air-duct, and a damping cam-lever, D, having an adjustable fulcrnm-connection With the spnnt, a und f01 the pnrpose described.
4. In a bung-faucet, the spont hav ing tl1e vertical arms provided with the longitudinal aligned slots and the notches in the slots, and commnnicating therewithin combination with an adjustable lever having the trunnions sliding in tl1e slots to adj ust the lever and adapted to take into the notcl1es and thereby form fulcrums for the lever, and an angular device, as

5. In a bung-faucet, aspout and a compressible paeking-ring 01 gasket interposed between the spont und cask, and having tl1e inner or rear face bevelcd outwardly from the upper edge of the opening therein to the periphery 0f the ring, as ab K, in combination with a device, as L, f0r connecting the spout 150 the cask, and an adj ustablylulcrumed namlever having its fnlcrum-connection with the spout at a point thereon in 0l0se proximity t0 the beveled portion 0f tlie gasket, as and f01' the purpose Set fortl1.
6. In a bung-fancet, a spout, A, having a longitudinal air duct, which is interiorly threaded atits rear extremity, in combination with a vent-tnbe having at its lower 011d a bent threaded arm, e, which is screwcd into the 1ear threaded end 01' the air-duct and thereby ad justably connected to the spont, a cutofi'workingover tl1e open end of the spont and the aivduct therein, und a clamping-lever having an ad justable fulcrum-connection 'With the spout, as and for tl1e purpose described'.
