REMEDY FOR RHEUMATISM, 80G.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,337, dated July 26, 1887.

To an whom it may concern.-
Be it known that We,'TI-IOMAS J. CARSON, ROSWELL H. WILLIAMS, and DE WITT O. TUR- NER, citizens of the United States, residing at Greenfield, in the county of Dade and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Medical Compound for Treating Rheumatism; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de- Io scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of our invention is to provide a compound for treatment of rheumatism,acute r5 colic, sprains, earache, indigestion, or for alleviating pain; and to this end our invention consists in a mixture of the following ingredients, namely: pond-lily, (Nymphwa,) black cohosh, (Oimictfugtg) silleweed, (Asclepias 5,) alcohol, and pure water. These are compounded or united in the following manner and proportion: pond-lily, two ounces; black cohosh, two drums; silk-weed, one dram; alcohol, half-pint. Add pure water to make one quart.
The alcohol is used in the common.
when the whole is thoroughly agitated, after which it is put into the proper-sized bottles and labeled, when it is ready for use.
All of the ingredients used are safe and 40 valuable, possessing remedial properties of a high order, and they are combined in a safe and judicious manner, so as to bring into operation the valuable powers of all the elements.
Our compound is to be used, preferably, as an external remedy by rubbing upon the afflicted parts,0r by saturating a cloth with the mixture and binding on, as on rheumatic joints. When used as an internal remedy for rheumatism, acute colic, or cramps, one table- 0' and pure water, to make one (1) quart in all,
substantially as setforth.
