INVENTORS Gerard DESMARAIS I, I I 1| l l, l u I. I 25 7 Claude s A AIS I ATTORNEY SLIDE LIBRARY ALBUM This invention relates to a slide library album. More particularly, this invention is directed to a slide holding device of the type intended to hold a plurality of slides in rows inside an album and capable of being stored upstanding on a bookshelf.
Storage problems have recently become very important and it is now necessary to try to find means by which any article can be stored with more convenience and at the lowest possible costs.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a slide library album which can be stored upstanding on a bookshelf.
It is another object of the invention to provide a slide library album of the type which will occupy very little space.
The present invention resides in a slide library album of the type intended to hold a plurality of slides in rows inside the album, and it comprises a container, a slide holding tray placed in the container, a case adapted to enclose the container with the slide holding tray, means to fixedly mount the container on the case, and fastening means to close the case around the container with the slide holding tray, so constructed and arranged that when the case is closed, the slide library album can be stored upstanding on a bookshelf.
In a preferred embodiment according to the invention, the slide holding tray has a plurality of partitions to hold the slides in rows inside the tray and is provided with U-shaped ribs projecting from the partitions and the bottom of the tray.
The case is preferably formed with a base, a back and a cover, and the base and the back of the case are fixedly retained against the corresponding base and back of the container by means of split rivets which are used to fixedly mount the container on the case.
In accordance with another embodiment of the invention, both the cover and the base of the case have tabs projecting therefrom. The tab which projects from the cover contains the female part of a snap fastener and the tab formed at the base comprises the male part of said snap fastener so that the case may be closed merely by snapping the two tabs together.
The slide library album according to our invention is preferably made of plastic material.
In the drawings which illustrate the invention,
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the case of the present invention, in a closed position thereof;
FIG. 2 is an exploded view, in perspective, of the case of the present invention; and
FIG. 3 is a section taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the slide library album 1 according to the present invention comprises a rectangular container 3 (FIG. 2) and is formed so as to be capable of receiving a slide holding tray 5. The slide holding tray 5 has the particular shape illustrated in FIG. 2 and comprises dividing partitions 7, and ends 9 and 11. Partitions 7 and ends 9 and 11 are used to divide the slides in a plurality of rows.
In order to dispose the slides in small stacks between each partitions, there are provided a plurality of U-shaped ribs 13 and these of course project from the partitions and the bottom 15 of the slide holding tray, as illustrated in FIGS. 2 and 3.
The slide library album 1 also comprises a case 17 and the latter is adapted to enclose the container 3 with the slide holding tray 5 fittingly inserted in the container 3.
The case 17 is formed with a base 19, a back 21, and a cover 23. It will be noticed that the remaining outer portions of the slide library album 1 when the latter is closed will be formed by the case on the one hand (bottom 19, back 21 and cover 23), and the three sides 25, 27, 29 of the container 3. (Reference is made to FIG. 1 of the drawings).
The container 3 is fixedly mounted on the case 17 by means of a plurality of split rivets 31 which are used to fasten the container and the case together in the particular manner illustrated in FIGS. 2 and 3 of the drawings.
Finally, the case 17 is kept closed by means of a snap fastener 33 and the latter is formed by having a tab 35 projecting from the cover 23 and another tab 37 projecting from the base 19.
It will be noticed that the tab 35 comprise the female part 39 of the snap fastener 33 while the tab 37 comprises the male part 41 of the snap fastener 33, and the case is closed merely by snapping the fastener 33.
To store a plurality of slides 43 using the slide library album 1 according to the present invention, the slides 43 are first placed in stacks (between U-shaped ribs 13) and in rows (between partitions 7) inside the slide holding tray 5. The tray is then placed in the container 3 which has previously been attached to the case 17 by means of split rivets 31 and the case is closed by snapping the snap fastener 33.
The slide library album can then easily be stored on a bookshelf with great convenience.
We claim:
1. A slide library album of the type intended to hold a plurality of slides in rows in said album, comprising:
a. a container,
b. a slide holding tray received in said container,
0. said slide holding tray having a bottom face and formed with a plurality of partitions to hold said slides in rows inside said tray,
d. said slide holding tray in addition having U-shaped ribs projecting from said partitions and the bottom of said tray, to hold said slides in small stacks in each row,
e. a case adapted to enclose said container with said slide holding tray,
f. said case formed with a base, a back and a cover, said base and said back of said case fixedly retained against the base and back of said container by means of split rivets,
g. said cover of said case having a projecting first tab and said base having projecting second tab, said first tab comprising a female part of a snap fastener, and said second tab comprising a male part of said snap fastener, said case latched in closed position by snapping said snap fastener, so constructed and arranged that when said case is closed, said slide library album can be stored upstanding on a bookshelf.
