Description
UNITED STATES PATENT Orricn.
FREDERICK JENKINSON, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
STONE-SAW MILL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 366,728, dated July 19, 1887.
Application filed October 7, 1886. Serial No. 215,528.
To all whom. it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK JEwKIN- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stone-Saw Mills, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to means for supplying water to the stone while being sawed; and it has for its object to overcome defects in existing mechanism now in general use for that purpose.
In the sawing of stone, a gang of saws composed of a series of smooth blades are suitably held in a saw-frame and made to reciprocate back and forth over the stone, sand and water being constantly supplied to the saws. The actual cutting is done by the sand. The water washes the sand into workingposition under the saws and keeps the saws from becoming hot.
The object of my invention is to supply this water in the best possible manner, by distributing exactly as much water as is needed and no more, exactly where it is needed and none anywhere else. I dothis by means simple, economical, and efficient, which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal side elevation of my device as it appears in position on the frame of the machine. Fig. 2 is a plan view, and Fig. 3 is an end elevation, of the same.
A is the main frame of the machine.
B is a block of stone partly sawed, showing the tracks or spaces 1) left by the saw-blades.
G is the main watcr-pipe, resting crosswise of the machine at one end on brackets c At right angles to C, and connecting with the same by stop-cocks D, are a series of distributing-tubcs composed of parts f d E, extending lengthwise of the stone over the sawblades and tracks, and are held in position by crossbars e on the main frame. Of these distributingtubes the parts E andf are of metal and the part dis of rubber or other flexible material. In the partsf are the stop-cocks D. The parts E are perforated below. The
(No model.)
supporting cross-bars c are provided with a series of holes for the reception of pins 0. The part (Z, being flexible, permits lateral adjustment of the part E. In virtue of this ad justable feature the distributingtube E may be brought directly in line with the track of the saw-blade without regard to the thickness of the slabs being sawed, and the water may be delivered exactly where it is wanted; and the part E is held in its proper position by the pins 0, on opposite sides of the same, in the holes of supporting-bars c. No part of the water is wasted; the requisite quantity of sand is washed under the saws, and no more; the annoyance of'slop and mud is avoided, and considerable saving of expense and gain in efficiency of the saws is effected.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows:
1. In water-supplying devices for stonesawing, the combination of main water-pipe 0, short metallic branches f, provided with stop-cocks D, flexible section (I, of rubber or other suitable material, and metallic distributing-section E, provided with perforations for discharge of the water.
2. In stone-saw mills, the combination of. main water-pipe 0, short metallic branchesf, provided with stop-cocks D, flexible section d, composed of rubber or other suitable material, perforated metallic (listributing-section E, and means, substantially as described, for sustaining the distributing-scctiou E in position directly over the track of the saws, all substantially as described, for the purpose set forth.
3. In stone-saw mills, a main water-pipe, 0, short metallic branches f, provided with stop-cocks D, flexible section (I, perforated metallic distributing-section E, supportingbar 0, provided with pinholes, and pins 0, all in combination, as described, for the purpose set forth.
