Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE w. ANsLEY, or OLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SKATES.
Speciiication formingr part of' Letters Patent No. 36,595, dated October 7, 186'?.
of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this speciication, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
My invention relates to the mounting the sole-of the skate uponl springs in such a manner as Vto give an easy motion between the sole and the runner, and which is capable of adjustment for a lighter or heavier person, giving thereby an easy and elastic motion to the foot of the wearer. Y
A represents the sole of the skate, and A a circular cavitylined with metal, and in which slides the circular case B, which is firmly sccured to the shank C. The runner or skateiron D is pivoted to the shank C at E in such a way as to allow the skate-iron to adjust itself to the action of the springs, hereinafter to be described, when in use, the pivot forming a kind ofjoint, so as to coincide with the movement of the springs at either end.
F is a bail or loop embracing the pin G,pass ing through the lower part of the shank C. The two ends of this loopF are secured to the nut H, in which works the screw I, the head of which is seen at J.
K represents a gum-elastic spring placed inside of the forward circular case, B,and extending from the base of the case B to the plate a upon the upper side of the solo A.
K represents a coiledwire spring placed in the heel-case B, one end of which rests in the base, the upper end resting against the under side of the plate a.
By turning the screw I by means of the head .I both springs can receive more or less tension or condensation, as may be desired for a light or heavy person, as the natureof the case may require, the circular case B being thereby adjusted upward or downward in the cavvity A. The pin G being within the loop F,
allows the springs to vibrate up and dowuas far as may be desired to give an easy motion to the foot of the wearer, the nut H moving up and down on the ends of the loop F, or from the space between the pin G and the runner D the loop F has room for sufiioient motion for the action ofthe springs, and in the action of the springs the case B moves up and down in the cavity A, as above stated.
What I claim as my improvement, and dcsire to secure by Letters Patent, is
- The hereilrdescribed special arrangement ofthe cavity A,case B,and springs K K,when these parts are combined with the pivoted shank C, loopF,and adjustingscrew Las and for the purpose specified.
