OTTO EWERT, or CLEVELAND, OHIO, AssIGNOn OF ONE-HALF TO ABRA- HAM DEUTSOHEL, OF SAME PLACE.
VAPOR-BURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 361,934. dated April 26, 1887.
Application filed November 8, 1886. Serial No. 218,307. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, OTTO EWERT, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vapor-Burners; and I-do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in vapor-burners in which the burner is of the Argaud variety, with perforated tubes arranged, respectively, inside aud outside the wick, the inner perforated tube having a diaphragm inside thereof and extending laterally across the bore of the tube, to arrest the current of air passing up inside the burner and deflect the same .into the flame, to the end that better results are had by means of the diaphragm.
In the accompanyingdrawings, Figure l is aside elevation of a vapor-burner embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation in section, taken at right angles to the view shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view.
A represents a container, with an inside tube, A, the two being united or integral at the bottom and having an opening, A, to admit air inside the burner ou the Argand principle. The tubular projections a are for attat-hing feed-pipes and supporting the burner. The wick B is usually inclosed in a gauze or perforated metal casing, b, the latter being engaged by the spur-wheel b, by means of which the wick is elevated or depressed uniformly. A perforated tube, O, is made to fit into the upper end of the tube A, and consequently elevated position.
the tube 0 is inside the wick. An outer perforated tube, D, ineloses the upper end of the wick. The tube D is secured to a band or holder, D, the latter being secured to or carrying pins (2, that pass through holes made in ears a of the container. A forked lever, E, is pivoted to an arm, F, the latter being secured to the container. The prongs of the lever abut the lower ends of the pins, by means of which, by pressing down on the outer end of the lever, the tube D is raised for the purpose of lighting or extinguishing the burner. Inside the perforated tube 0, and located usually near the top thereof, is a diaphragm, Q, the latter extending laterally across the bore of the tube. The diaphragm arrests the current of air that passes up inside the burner and deflects the air into the flame, thereby greatly increasing the effectiveness of the burner.
In the drawings the tube D is shown in its \Vhat I claim is In a vapor-burner of the Argand variety,
the combination, with perforated tubes lo cated, respectively, inside and outside the wick, as shown, of a diaphragm made to extendlaterally across the in'li'ei' perforated tube, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I sign this specifica tion, in the presence of two witnesses, this 18th day of October, 1886.
OTTO EWERT'.
