Abstract

My invention provides a reusable cushioned pad with extending tapes for securing the pads to a person. The extending tape means are provided with self securing holding means when the tapes are overlapped and pressed together. The tapes are released from holding condition by separating the tapes and may be repeatedly used to secure the pads to a person without deterioration of the holding quality of the holding means. Secured at the ends of the tapes are tabs that are adapted to repeated use to overlap the tapes when they are in holding position, and lock the tapes together to prevent the tapes from separating during the time that a pad is secured to a person.

A further object is to provide a protection pad that can be secured to a child or person without the use of separate securing means i.e. pins, hooks or strings and at the same time provide a locking means around the securing means to prevent the undoing ofthe securing means.

A primary object of my invention is to provide a protective pad with self contained securing means that can be applied next to the skin of a person or in the alternative be applied over and secured over clothing worn by a person.

The novelty taught by my invention lies in the security locking means in conjunction with my tape securing means. Also, my pad does not require laces or pins to secure it to a person.

These and other objects will become apparent to those skilled in the art as set forth in the specifications and illustrated in the drawings of my invention and forming part ofthis application.

Referring to FIG. 1 there is illustrated a pad comprising a pouch I made out of pliable material such as cloth or soft leather. In the preferred embodiment as illustrated it is rectangular in shape, it may however be contoured to the shape of elbows and knees or any other form. An upper outer side panel 2 overlaps a bottom side panel 3 of the pouch. These side panels are not secured together thereby providing an opening at 4 between the panels for inserting a removable padding of sponge rubber or other cushing material into the pouch. This opening also allows the removal and replacement of the padding.

Secured to and extending to the left from a top end 6 of the pad (see FIG. 1) there is a tape 7. Another tape 8 is secured to and extends to the left from a bottom end 9 of the pad. These tapes together with other tapes (to be explained) provide the means for removably securing the pad to a person. Secured to the tapes there are pieces of reusable Velcro material 10 for securing the tapes together. The other tapes II and 12 are secured to and extend from the right side of the pad which together with the first tapes provide the means to removably secure the pads to a person. The right-hand tapes have pieces of Velcro 13 secured to them that are adapted to be pressed into contact with the pieces of Velcro on the left-hand tapes and thereby removably retain the tapes in securing position on a person. Secured to and extending at right angles from the ends of the right-hand tapes there are

14 and 15 to which are secured other pieces of reusable Velcro

material

16 and 17. These pieces of Velcro material are adapted to be brought into contact with each other upon wrapping of the tabs around the ends of the left-hand tapes when the tapes are superimposed on each other. The wrapping around of the tabs around the tapes provide a locking means to prevent the two tapes from separating from each other.

In use my pad is placed in a desired place on a person as illustrated in FIGS. 6 to 11 inclusive. When the pad is in place the tapes are overlapped until they are comfortably secured to a person and held in contact and fastening by the Velcro fastener on the tapes. The tabs are then wrapped around the tapes and the tabs are secured together by the Velcro fastener. When the tabs are locked around the tapes, the tapes cannot become apart and hence the pad is secured from easy removal from a person Having thus described my invention I claim:

I. An applicable and removable protection pad substantially as described comprising:

a pouch of substantially flexible material providing a receptacle for flexible padding adapted to conform to the contour ofajoint on a person,

overlapping panels of said pouch forming an opening in said pouch for inserting said padding in said pouch to retain said padding in said pouch when said panels are overlapped,

a multiple of tape means secured to said pouch at the four corners of said pouch,

compressible securing means on said tape means to compressibly secure said tape means together and thereby provide means for removably securing said pad in place on a person, said tape means having extending tabs secured to the ends thereof, and

compressibly securing means secured on said tabs adapted to be wrapped around said tapes to lock said tapes from disengagement each from the other and thereby secure said pad in place on a person.

Claims

1. An applicable and removable protection pad substantially as described comprising: a pouch of substantially flexible material providing a receptacle for flexible padding adapted to conform to the contour of a joint on a person, overlapping panels of said pouch forming an opening in said pouch for inserting said padding in said pouch to retain said padding in said pouch when said panels are overlapped, a multiple of tape means secured to said pouch at the four corners of said pouch, compressible securing means on said tape means to compressibly secure said tape means together and thereby provide means for removably securing said pad in place on a person, said tape means having extending tabs secured to the ends thereof, and compressibly securing means secured on said tabs adapted to be wrapped around said tapes to lock said tapes from disengagement each from the other and thereby secure said pad in place on a person.
