Be it known that I, JOSEPH S. hL-LYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trenton, in the couniy of Mercer and State of New 5 Jersey. have invented a new and useful Pot;- 'ters Mold, of which the following is a pecificution.
My invention relates to improvements in that class of potters molds used in the process of jiggering ware, and is adapted to the formation of putters vessels having contracted necks, expanded lower part or parts, and oases recessed or having an annular base rim or foot. Its object is, first, to produce a 5 thoroughly practical self-clamping mold of the sectional type, which, by avoiding the use of clamping'straps, loose bottom pieces, and all complication of parts, can he worked with much greater ease and rapidity than those heretofore used in the manufacture of this class of ware; secondly, to construct this mold so that its two vertically-divided halves can,wil;h incased vesselshe separated from th eir bottom parts immediately after the vessel is formed, whereby the base of the plastic vessel is eX- posed to the free heatof thedrying-rooin, greater uniformityand rapidity in the dryingoui; process is secured, and the working quota of molds materially reduced thereby.

B is a pitcherqnold snugly fitting inside of case A and around projection A, so as to leave a clearance between the bottom of mold B and case A, in order that the mold B will seal; firmly and follow down in case of wear. It; is made in halves and doweled together, and is self-centering by simply dropping into case A.
The operation of my improved device is substantially as follows: A head the inner surface of which coincides with the-external surface of case A is fitted to a jiggerspindle. The case A is then inserted in this jigger-head. The mold l3, conforming in outline to the external surface of the desired vessel, is next inserted in case A, the projection A snugly fitting into and forming bottom for this mold. A sweep is next; prepared coinciding with the desired inner surface of the vessel to he made and is then properly fitted to the pull-down lever. A but of clay is next thrust into the mold B, the pulldown brought into proper position, when in a few revolutions of the jigger the desired vessel is completed.

1 also havc another application, Serial No. 191,143, for Letters Patent, in which is shown, but not claimed, the combination desired to he covered in this application, the other application being for an additional feature not included herein; but in this application 1 do claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent A potters mold-case consisting of the case B, having internally the configuration of the vessel to he made, externally tapered, with open bottom, and vertically divided into halves, in combination with correspondingly-tapered inclosingcase A, adapted to clamp said halves togebher, and having an integral central raised portion, A, to fit into the open bottom of she inner case, B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
