Abstract

A device particularly for, but not limited to rotary vertical gun racks. This device when the barrel of the gun is urged against the flat surface of the disc forming the lock, it will automatically rotate the disc, the outer portion partially encompassing the barrel and preventing it from falling out of the rack if the rack is rotated fast.

Fi .1 I
INVEN'I'OR.
I 1 James PIKE/rd BARREL LOCK FOR GUN RACK This invention relates to gun racks, and more particularly to a locking device for retaining the barrels of guns placed within the rack.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a barrel lock for guns which will retain the barrel of the gun within the rack without having to construct a gun rack having a larger face than necessary in order that the guns barrels will be maintained within the center of the rack to prevent them from falling out of the rack when the rack is spun too fast.
Another object of this invention is to provide a barrel lock for gun racks which will consist of a disc having an offset pivot pin which will allow it to rotate when the barrel of the gun is urged against a flat surface of a semiradial slot through the disc.
A further object of this invention is to provide a barrel lock which will have a portion of the slot through the disc cradling portion of the outer periphery of the barrel in order to prevent the barrel from sliding out of the angular slot of the barrel holding portion of the rack' Other objects of this invention are to provide a barrel lock for gun rack which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will become readily apparent upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. I is a fragmentary end view of a gun rack, showing the lock in closed position, the open position being shown in phantom lines; and
FIG. 2 is a front view of FIG. 1.
According to this invention, a barrel lock for guns that are put into gun rack 11 is provided with a flat disc 12 having an inner fiat surface 13 of a semiradial opening 14 of disc 12. The gun barrel 15 when urged against surface 13 causes disc 12 to rotate about the offset pins 16 which is secured to the gun rack wall 17. The disc 12 of barrel lock 10 portion in combination with the opening 18 to one edge of gun rack wall 17 so as to allow the gun barrel 15 to remain stationery within gun rack 11. t
When placing gun barrel 15 within gun rack 11 the opening 14 of disc 12 is aligned with opening 18 of the rack wall 17 to allow passage of gun barrel 15. When gun barrel 15 is urged toward the end of the opening 18 and is further urged against the surface 13 of disc 12, the disc 12 is pivoted about the pivot pin I6 which will cause the arcuate portion of opening 14 to engage and cradle a portion of the outer periphery of gun barrel l5 and will render it stationary within gun rack 11 until it is desired to remove the gun.
I claim:
1 A barrel lock for guns in a gun rack, comprising in combination a fiat disc an offset pivot pin carried by said disc providing rotation means for said disc and a gun rack wall for mounting said disc and supporting a gun barrel, said disc having a circular periphery interrupted by a generally R-configurated central slot wherein the lower ends of said R legs communicate with said peripheral edge so to define said slot, said R legs defining centrally converging sides of the outer portion of said slot, the inner portion of said slot comprising an oval area having one generally long side defining the upper portion of said R configuration, said long side being at right angles to a longer leg of said R configuration, and a shorter leg of said configuration meeting a center of an opposite side of said oval therewith defining a hook formed on one side of said slot, said disc provided with said slot receiving the barrel of a gun in conjunction with a slot through the gun rack wall which will support said gun barrel, said disc e being supported upon said offset pivot pin which extends through said disc and through said gun rack wall aiding and supporting said gun barrel, and said slot of said disc when aligned with the opening of said gun rock allows admittance of said gun barrel into said barrel locking disc, said gun barrel when urged against the flat surface comprising an extension of the arcuate surface of said slot causin rotation of said disc, so that the following edge will partial y encompass andcradle said barrel within said opening ing of said gun rack wall when centrifugal force is applied to said gun within said rack.
