SPOON-BAIT.

Be it known that I, JOHN B. MOHARG, of Rome, Oneida county, State of New York, a citizen of the United States, have invented an Improved Spoon-Bait, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

My invention relates to a fishing-spoon bait; and itconsists in a spoon-bait composed of the parts and devices hereinafter described, and arranged as specified, and as more atlength recited in the claim.

Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of a spoon-bait containing my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same with an additional attached part, and Fig. 3 is a similar view of the same with the additional part at-i tached in a different location.

A is the bait-wire, on which the-several devices are mounted, and has at each end alo'op,'

B is a globe or ball which is diametrically pierced, and is mounted on the wire, as shown, as upon an axis. This globe or ball has its exterior made, preferably, a hammered surface, thus giving it many reflecting-faces, and it may have on its opposite sides, around its axial opening, the hubs b, as shown. Above and below the ball on the wire A, and between the upper and lower faces of the ball and the loops to and a, respectively, are the tube-washers G and G, which serve to maintain the ball in its posit-ion on the wire, as shown in the drawings. Above the upper washer, C, and between it and the top loop, a, the spoon D. is attached by a loop, d, so that it extends radially from the wire and wholly on one side thereof, as shown, and so that it is capable of free movement upon and around the wire.

- To the lower loop, a, is attached the hook or hooks E, preferably by a loop, e, as-shown.

The washer 0 above the globe may be in two portions, fastened rigidly uponthe wire, if desired, one part being immediately below the spoon-loop d, to sustain the spoon, and the other immediately above the ball B.

I find it desirable to attach to this spoonbait thus constructed a natural feather or feathers, or a metal imitation of the same, to facilitate successful angling for some kinds of fish. These feathers are shown at F, and they may be attached to the upper washer, O, as shown in Fig. 2, and depend therefrom with their lower ends approaching but not concealing the ball B or they may be secured to the hook-shank f and depend about the hooks, as shown in Fig. 3. y

In fabricating this spoon-bait it is desirable to have the ball, spoon, and the washers C and O of different colors or hues, and that they shall be polished to constitute reflecting-surfaces. In moving through the water the ball will reflect in all directions radially, and the spoon in its movement around the wire will give intermitting reflections.

vI am aware that fish-baits have been heretofore made with devices constituting reflecting-surfaces. I do not, therefore, claim herein, broadly, a fish-bait having such devices, but intend to limit my claim hereunder to the combination, in the described spoon-bait, 'of the wire A, the spoon D, extending radially to one side of the wire, the ball B, carried by the wire, and the washers G and 0, arranged as specified, and cooperating as set forth.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to said ball and said loops, respectively, and the spoon D on said wire above and held apart from the ball by the said washer 0, its lower end being-free, all as and for the purpose set forth.
