FORGING ROLLER FOR NAIL MACHINES. N0..3-54,64 8. Patented Dec. 21, 1886;
INVBNTOR ATTORNEYS.
PATENT EEicEt GEORGE E. MIOHON, OE EssEX, nEw YORK.
FORGING ROLLER FOR NAIL-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 354,648, dated December 21,1886.
Application filed June 19, l886. Serial No. 205,661. (No modcLl To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE ELDRIDGE MIOHON, of Essex, in the county of Essex and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Adjusting Device for Forging-Rollers of Nail-Machines, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invent-ion relates to an arrangement whereby the usual wear upon the small side of the stock is greatly reduced or entirely overcome.
The invention consists of a pair of steel pins carried by the stock in a position to be borne upon by the side face of the roller, thereby relieving the small side of the stock from wear.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,
11 the head, in which head there is mounted a roller, 12, which revolves on a tapering spindle, 13, the small end of the spindle resting in the small side 14. of the head of the stock. In the small side 14 of the head 11 I arrange steel pins 15, which project within the slot in which the roller 12 is mounted, and constitute a bearing against which the side face of the roller will bear. In the opposite side of the stock I form holes or apertures 16, through which any punch or implement may be inserted when it becomes necessary to drive out the pins 15.
In the head of the stock there is an oil cham her or reservoir, 20, which is usually filled 40 through an opening in the side of the stock that is closed by a pin or plug, 21, as indicated in Figs. 2 and 3; but in order that the reservoir may be at times thoroughly cleaned, I close one of its ends by a plug, 22, as shown 45 in Figs. 1 and 4. Above the reservoir 20 there is a recess, 25, in which there is fitted a screw,
23, formed with a taper point, 2, the recess 25 being so formed that by advancing the screw communication between the ducts 3 and 4 0 (which lead, respectively, from the reservoir 20 to the recess 25 and from the recess 25 to the spindle 13) will be cut off, or the supply of oil passing from the reservoir may be regulated to suit the exigencies of the case. 5 5 Wicking or other fibrous material, 5, is preferably arranged, as shown, within the duct 4.
In operation it will be found that the implement illustrated in the drawings, and hereinbefore described, will operate so that the usual wear upon the small side of the head of the stock will be taken up by the pins 15, and that from the peculiar location of the oil-reservoir almost every drop of.oil placed therein may be used up before it will be necessary to replenish the supply.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a forging-roller for nail-machines, the 70 combination, with a stock and its roller, of pins 15, arranged substantially as described.
- GEORGE E. MIOHON.
