Cl. 297-118 6 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This device comprises a case made in two sections hinged together at the back. The sections about one another, when the case is closed, along a diagonal plane. When the case is fully open, the diagonal surfaces of the two sections form a base and the opposite surfaces of the two sections form a seat and a back rest, therefor, respectively. The case is large enough to carry inside it, when closed, a fishing tackle box or the like, a lunch, and a pair of rods joined by a piece of canvas. When the case is open, the two rods can be inserted through holes in the backarest section, so that the canvas will be stretched between the rods to form an upper back-support which is an extension of the back rest itself.

The present invention relates to combination carrying cases and seats.

A primary object of the invention is to provide a carrying case for transporting various articles, such as fishing tackle, etc., which may be converted into a seat particularly for the fisherman who wants to fish through the ice.

A further object of the invention is to provide a combination carrying case and seat which may be used for various purposes, such as for transporting a lunch, binoculars, etc., and as a seat at a picnic, at a sporting event, etc.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a combination carrying case and seat of the character described, which is of relatively simple construction, reasonable in cost, and which may be easily and quickly converted from a carrying case to a seat, and vice versa.

Other objects of the invention will be apparent hereinafter from the specification and from the rectital of the appended claims, particularly when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing.

In the drawing:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a combination carrying case and seat constructed according to one embodiment of this invention;

FIG. 2 is a side elevation, partly in section, showing the carrying case opened and arranged for use as a seat; and

FIG. 3 is a front elevation of the opened carrying case as shown in FIG. 2.

The carrying case may be made of wood, plastic or other suitable material. It comprises two parts and 11 hingedly connected together at their backs by hinges 12. The section 10 has a front wall 14 of considerably greater height than its rear wall 15; and the side walls 16 of this section have their bottom edges inclined from front to rear so that they lie in a diagonal plane 18.

The bottom section 11 has a rear wall 20 higher than the front wall 21, and its side walls 22 have their top edges 24 lying in a diagonal plane. The bottom of the bottom section 11, which constitutes the bottom of the case, is denoted at 25; and the top of the top section 10, which constitutes the top of the case, is denoted at 26.

Pivotally secured to the front wall 14 of the top section 10 is a conventional carrying handle 28.

Secured to the insides of the side walls 22 of the bottom section 11 is a block 30, which has two

The case is made larger enough, when intended for use by a fisherman, for instance, to hold a fishing tackle box, the fishermans lunch, and a seat back when the back is rolled up. The seat back comprises two rods 35 and a connecting piece of canvas 36, whose ends are sewed together about the tops of the two rods, respec tively. The bottom section 11 has two spaced holes 38 in its bottom 25, through which the rods or bars 35 can be passed, when the case is opened and inverted, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, to have the bottoms of the bars rest selectively on the

31 or 32 of the blocks 30. When the bottoms of the bars 35 rest on the ledges 32 of these blocks, the back will have the position shown in full lines in FIG. 2, while when the bottoms of the rods rest on the ledges 31 of the blocks 30, the back will have the position shown in dotted lines in FIG. 2.

The fisherman can sit on the top 26 of the opened cover section 10 and rest his back against rear wall 20 of the bottom section and the back 34. When it is no longer desired to use the device as a seat, the rods 35 are pulled out of the holes 38, and the back is rolled up by rolling up the canvas 36, and the rolled-up back is placed inside the carrying case. Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

1. A combination carrying case and seat, comprising two hollow sections,

each having a front end wall, a back end wall, two side walls, and an outer wall, the outer wall of one section constituting the top and the outer wall of the other section constituting the bottom of said case, when it is closed,

the side walls of both sections being inclined complementarily from one end to the other so that the free edges of the side, front and back wall of the two sections are coplanar, and in contact, when the.

case is closed, hinge means connecting the two sections at their rear, the free edges of one section constituting a base for a seat, when the case is open, the outer wall of said one section then constituting the seat itself, and the adjoining end wall of the other section then constituting a back rest for said seat.

2. A combination carrying case and seat as claimed in claim 1, wherein the outer wall of said one section is a plane surface inclined to the plane of the free edges of said section so as to form a seat inclined from front to rear when said case is open.

3. A combination carrying case and seat, as claimed in claim 1, having a foldable auxiliary back rest, that may be stored in the case when closed,

said auxiliary back rest comprising a pair of rods and a flexible sheet extending between said rods and fastened at opposite ends to the two rods.

A combination carrying case and seat as claimed in claim 3, wherein said other section has spaced holes in its outer wall through which said rods may be inserted to support said rods, 'when said case is open, and hold said rods in position so that the flexible sheet is taut and may serve as an auxiliary back rest.
