The body has a chamber in alignment with the convex surface with heating means being provided in the chamber to heat the convex surface. At least one presser plate is hingedly secured to the body and has a concave presser head extending into and cooperating with the convex surface on the body for holding false eyelashes against the convex surface for curling the false eyelashes.
ELECTRIC FALSE EYELASH CURLER This invention relates to a cosmetic appliance and more particularly to a device for curling false eyelashes.
In order to enhance the beauty and general appearance. women have employed false eyelashes which added to the natural eyelashes give rise to an increased appeal and beauty to the eye and hence the general overall appearance of the user. However, eyelashes are provided by nature with an upward swirl or curl and false eyelashes when manufactured have such a curl or swirl imparted thereto. However, there is from wear and use a tendency of the hair used in constructing the false eyelashes to grow limp or droop and it is the primary purpose of the present invention to provide means for conveniently and easily imparting to the false eyelashes the desired upward curl or swirl.
A further object of the present invention resides in the provision of an eyelash curler adapted to be conveniently and easily inserted into any conventional outlet receptacle and for heating both eyelashes of a pair of false eyelashes and thereby curling the eyelashes.
An additional object of the invention resides in the provision of an eyelash having means therein for conveniently storing and safeguarding various pairs of false eyelashes. The construction of this invention features an eyelash curler which is formed of a synthetic plastic material and having cooperating convex and concave surfaces which securely hold an eyelash therebetween and which is provided with heating means for imparting heat to the convex surface, thereby providing a long lasting curl to the false eyelash.
Still further objects and features of this invention, which will become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by this eyelash curler, a preferred embodiment of which is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, by way of example only, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of an eyelash curler constructed in accordance with the concepts of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the eyelash curler;
FIG. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken along the plane ofline 3--3 of FIG. 2;
FIG. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 3 but showing the eyelash curler in an open position;
FIG. 5 is an enlarged sectional detail view illustrating the parts of the invention in an enlarged scale and shown with a pair of false eyelashes inserted in position for curling;
FIG. 6 is a transverse sectional view taken along the plane of line 6-6 in FIG. 5; and
FIG. 7 is a perspective view of a false eyelash.
With continuing reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein like reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the various views, reference numeral 10 is used to generally designate an eyelash curler adapted to be utilized in.
curling false eyelashes such as that generally indicated in FIG. 7 by reference numeral 12. The false eyelash curler includes a base 14 and lashes 16 preferably formed of natural hair.
The eyelash curler 10 is formed of three main parts, namely a body 14 and two presser plates 16 and 18. The presser plates 16 and 18 are hingedly secured to the body 14 by means of shafts 20 and 22. The presser plates 16 and 18 are preferably formed of a synthetic transparent plastic material which is not thermo-plastic at the temperatures utilized in curling the false eyelashes 12. The body 14 is preferably made from any suitable synthetic plastic material and such materials as nylon, or any other commercially available material may be employed.
The body 14 may be molded in two parts 24 and 26. The part 24 has an end flange 28, a flange portion 30, a depression 32 from which a convex portion 34 rises, a receptacle 36 having an inner rib 38 extending around at least a portion thereof, a rear flange portion 40 and an upwardly extending flange 42 provided with a slot 44 therein forming latching means. The
convex portion 52 which corresponds to the convex portion 34 and defines a chamber 54 therebetween. Further, the body portion is provided'with a pan portion 56 which underlines the receptacle 36, a flange portion 58 and an angulated and/or flange portion 60 which likewise is provided with a slot 62 therein forming a latching means.
Disposed within the chamber 54 are a pair of resistances 64 and 66 which serve as heating coils and are held in spaced relationship to the convex surfaces 36 and 52 by means of spacer elements 68 which are preferably formed of nylon or like material. Embedded in the flanges 28 and 46 of the body are a pair of prongs 70 which are connected to the resistors in series connection by means of conductors 72' and 74. The prongs 70 are adapted to be inserted into the outlets of any conventional outlet receptacle. The presser plate I6 is provided with ears 76 for facilitating the pivotal attachment to the body. The presser plate 16 is further provided with a concave surface 78 defined by'a presser head 80 and a cover plate portion 82 which is adapted to overlie the receptacle 36 together with an inwardly extending end portion 84 adapted to fit between the flange 38 and the end portion 42 and having detent 86 thereon adapted to be received in the slot 44 for latching the presser plate in a closed position. The presser plate 18 is of substantial identical construction as presser plate 16 and includes a presser head 90 provided with a concave surface 92 together with latching means 94 adapted to cooperate with the slot 62.
In use, the false eyelash 12 is disposed on one of the convex surfaces 34 or 52 by insertion thereof in the direction of arrows A. Then, the corresponding presser plate 16 or 18 isclosed after which the device may be inserted into an electric outlet for the desired period of time, such as four or five minutes. The resistances 64 and 66 serve to heat the convex surfaces 34 and 52 to a sufficient temperature to curl the false eyelashes 12 to a desired extent. When not in use, other false eyelashes may be conveniently stored in the receptacle 36.
A latitude of modification, substitution and'change is intended in the foregoing disclosure and in some instances, some features of the invention will be employed without a corresponding use of other features. Accordingly, it is appropriate that the appended claims be construed broadly and in a manner consistent with the spirit and scope of the inven-' tion herein.
We claim:
I. A false eyelash curler comprising a body provided with a depression therein, a convex surface rising out of said depression, said body having a hollow chamber in alignment with said convex surface, heating means in said chamber for providing heat to said convex surface, and a movable presser plate having a concave presser head extending into said depression and cooperating with said convex surface, and means securing said presser plate to said body for clampingly holding false eyelashes between said presser head and said convex surface, said heating means comprising at least one heating coil, electrical connector prongs connected to said heating coil and embedded in said body and extending outwardly from one end thereof.
2. An eyelash curler according to claim 1, including spaced disc-shaped spacer means surrounding said heating coil holding said heating coil inspaced relation to said body in said chamber.
3. An eyelash curler according to claim 2, including a rib exing means comprises at least one resistance heating coil, prongs connected to said heating coil and embedded in said body and extending outwardly from one end thereof. said plate being hingedly secured to said-body at said one end.
