UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PASOHAL S. KINSWVORTHY, OF BBOWNSTOWN, ARKANSAS.
CULTIVATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,413, dated November 9, 1886.
. Application filed August 5, 1886.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PASOHAL S. KINSWOR- THY, of Brownstown, in the county of Sevier and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivators;
' and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ot'the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, ref,- erence being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of thisspecification.
My invention relates to an improvement in cultivators; and it consists in the combination of the pivoted adjustable plate attached to the side of the beam with a block or bearing, which is provided with a number of grooves or recesses in its front side, and to which block the standard is to be fastened, all of which will be more fully describedhereinafter.
The object of my invention is to connect to opposite sides of the beam blocks to which the standards are to be fastened, the blocks being connected to pivoted adjusting-plates, whereby the angle at which the standard stands can be changed, and the standard can be adjusted laterally upon the blocks so as to increase or decrease the distance between them.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a cultivator embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective .of one of the adjusting-plates and the block secured thereto.
A represents the cultivator-beam, and B the handles. Pi voted to oppositesidesot'thisbedm, in any desired relation to each other, are the two adjusting-plates O, which have their rear ends widened out, and through these widened ends are made a series of perforations, which form a. segment of a circle. By raising or lowering the rear ends of these plates the blocks D, which are secured to them, can be adjusted so that their front sides will stand at different Serial No..2l0,054. (N0 model.)
angles, and thus change the angles at which justed according to the distance it is desired to have between the standards. When the standards are fastened in the recesses which are nearest to the beams, they are brought as near together as they can be adjusted, and thus are adapted to cultivate very narrow rows.
When the standards are moved outward into the outer recesses, they are moved apart and are adj nsted for cultivating between wide rows. If the standards are to be set so as to run shal- -low, the .rear ends of the plates are adjusted upward; but if the shovels are to run deep the rear ends of the adjusting-plates are lowered, so as to increase the angle at which the standards stand. The standards are made double, and are thus adapted to have the shovels adjusted vertically upon them at the will of the operator.=
Having thus described my invention, I claim The combination of the beam, the pivoted adjusting-plates secured thereto, the blocks which are rigidly secured to the plates and extend at right angles to the beam, and which are provided with a series of recesses in their front sides, and the standards, which are made adj ustable in the recesses, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in' presence of two witnesses. W
PASOHAL S. KI'NSWORTHY.
