FOUNT FOR VAPOR STOVES- l No, 351,774. Y I Patented Nov. 2, 1886h UNITED STATES PATENT OEEI-CE.
LLEEBEET H. HULL, 0E CLEVELAND, oHio.
FjoUNT FOR vAPoR-sTovEs.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 351,774-, dated November 2, 1886.
Y Application filed April 29, 1886. Serial No. $200,558. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Beit known that I, HERBERT H. HULL, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful4 Improvements in Founts for Vapor- Stoves, of which the followingis a specifica# tion.
This invention `relates to tilting founts for vapor-burning stoves; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of parts comprising theiilling-neck and a valve mechanism contained therein, as' hereinafter described, and'pointed out inthe claim.
In the accompanying drawing the figure shown represents top portion of a vapor-stove having my improvement in founts attached,
" showing the fount in the upright position with valve closed, and the fount tilted with valve open.
A represents a tin fount of the customaryl size and proportions used on vaporstoves, and provided with the ordinary feed-pipe, c.
B is a funnel-shaped iilling-neck attached horizontally to the upper corner ofthe fount, and is providedwith a downwardly-extending branch tube, C, to the side of which is attached a diagonal chamber, D, connecting theI neck B with the lower portion of said branch tube C, said neck B having an opening, b, and the tube C having an opening, c, by which communication is made from the neck intov the tube C. Y
E is a ball-valve, having its seat in the open end of the tube C, which closes lthe communication from the neck into the fount when the fount is-in the upright position, but is free to roll away from the seat when the fount is tilted oyer. i l
The operation of this valve mechanism is as follows: While the fount is in the upright position it is impossible to iill it, for the reason that the ball closes the communication, making it necessary to tilt the can over to open the said. communicationf and in order to open said communication the can in'ust be tilted down a little below the horizontal positionzontal line the pressure of the iiow in the supply-pipe is taken off from the burners, thereby extinguishing the tires before the fount can be refilled, which 'results in rendering the filling of the fount absolutely safe, so. far as the connection of the burners is concerned. Having described my invention, I claim- The combination of a tilting Vessel, a discharge-tube in the bottom thereof, a llingneck opening through the side, a branch tube, through which the neck communicates with the vessel, a valveseat in the end of said tube, and a ball-valve closing said' tube when the vessel is upright and opening the vessel when tilted, substantially as described.
