Cl. 273-106 6 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This disclosure provides a boomerang assembly which has four vanes. Two substantially identical boomerangs having two vanes are joined at a common intermediate portion to form a boomerang having four vanes. These four vanes project radially from the common intermediate portion. Each of the boomerangs forming the combination of this disclosure has a substantially arcuate contour. The structural relationship between the two boomerangs is adjustable so that the combination may form a boomerang having four vanes or be separated to form two individual boomerangs.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION This invention pertains to improvements in a boomerang.
It is an object of this invention to provide a boomerang assembly which may be utilized as either two boomerangs each having two blades or detachably connected intermediate their respective blade to provide a boomerang of four blades.
I am aware that has been suggested that a boomerang may be provided with four or more blades by attaching two cross pieces intermediate their ends. However, it does not appear that either of the cross pieces is in itself a boomerang.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS In my invention, I do not provide cross-pieces as will be seen in the accompanying drawings, in which FIG. 1 is a top plan view illustrating two boomerangs connected to provide a four vane boomerang.
FIG. 2 is a side view as seen from the right relative to FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a view as seen from below relative to FIG. 1.
FIG. 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 44 of FIG. 1, the vanes being fragmentary.
DESCRIPTION OF SPECIFIC EMBODIMENT Each of the boomerangs A and B are of substantially the same shape and are each provided with vanes 1 and 2 connected by an intermediate portion 3. The intermediate portion 3 of each boomerang is provided with a hole 4 in substantially the same position with reference to its vanes 1 and 2 as the hole 4 in the other boomerang. These holes are placed in registry with each other at the small threaded end 5 of the rod 6. The rod 6 is provided with an annular contact shoulder 7 and a threaded wing-nut 8 engaged with the small threaded end 5 of the rod on a side of the boomerang opposite the annular shoulder 7.
The rod 6 is shown broken away in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4 and may be of any desired length sufiicient to permit the tosser of the boomerang to grab the rod upon the return of the boomerang. Preferably the rod and nut are made of the lightest possible material so that it will not materially interfere with operation of the boomerang.
It is, however, not necessary to provide the rod 6, it being necessary only to provide the annular shoulder 7, threaded end 5 and wing nut 8 to secure the boomerangs A and B together. It will be understood that portions 3 3,507,497 Patented Apr. 21, 1970 of the boomerangs A and B will engage each other with sufficient friction, after the wing nut 8 is tightened, to hold the boomerangs in proper relationship to each other.
As will be seen in FIG. 1, each boomerang A and B is provided with vanes 1 and 2. These vanes 1 and 2 extend from a common intermediate portion 3 at an angle of substantially relative to each other. The adjacent vanes 1 and 2 of each boomerang A and B extend from the common intermediate portion 3 at an angle of about 90 relative to each other. This structure thereby forms a four vaned boomerang having the vanes thereof disposed substantially 90 relative to adjacent vanes. As shown, each of the boomerangs A and B has a generally arcuate contour. The vanes 1 and 2 of each individual boomerang diverge with respect to each other.
I have not described the manner in which each of the boomerangs is formed since this is well known in the art to which this invention pertains.
My invention resides in the manner in which I unite two boomerangs, each having two vanes, to form a boomerang having four vanes and may easily be separated to provide two boomerangs, if desired.
From the drawings and the description, thereof, it will be obvious that I have provided a novel four vane boomerang which may be easily converted to two boomerangs, each having two vanes.
It will also be apparent that I have provided a novel method of providing a four vane boomerang by joining two boomerangs, each having two vanes.
It will also be apparent that I have provided a novel arrangement of a four vane boomerang which permits the operator to retrieve the boomerang before it reaches the ground with safety to the operator.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A boomerang assembly comprising:
(a) two substantially identical boomerang sections having vanes extending from an intermediate portion in diverging directions with respect to each other,
(b) said vanes and intermediate portion forming a substantially arcuate contour from one end of each section to the other end thereof, and
(c) connecting means to releasably join said boomerang sections at a common contacting point on the intermediate portion, the boomerang assembly having'four vanes projecting radially from the common contacting point.
2. A boomerang assembly as defined in claim 1 wherein said diverging directions are substantially 90 with respect to each other.
3. A boomerang assembly as defined in claim 1 wherein said intermediate portions include openings which are registered with respect to each other and said connecting means include rod means extending through said registered openings and means oper ably connected to said rod means to clamp the two boomerang sections together.
4. A boomerang assembly as defined in claim 1 wherein said intermediate portions include openings which are registered with respect to each other and said connecting means include a rod having threads at one .end thereof and an annular shoulder at the other end thereof,
said rod extending through said registered openings,
said connecting means further including a nut means screwed onto the threaded end of the rod to clamp the two boomerang sections together between said nut means and said annular shoulder.
