UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROMAN VOGLER, OF OBERTURKHEIM, VRTEMBERG, GERMANY.
ELECTRiC MOTOR.
SPYEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 350.025. dated September 28.1886- Application tiled December 24, 1885. SerialNo. 186,606.
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that l, ROMAN VOGLER, of Oberturkheim, Viirtemberg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Electric Motors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a novel construction or" an electrodynamic motor in which the entire field forms the armature, of which a full and clear description will be given hereinafter.
My invention consists of two or more pulley-rings having a ring. of soft iron, whereupon are fastened at suitable distances apart ou both sides thereof wedgeshaped cheeks of iron and wood. The former are arranged on each armature-ring in such a manner as will allow them to face each other when the rings shall have been properly arranged on a fixed or rotary shaft. The wooden cheeks are ot' course facing outwardly. On that portion of the soft-iron rings .exposed between the cheeks hereinbefore referred to are wound coils of wire coupled in series. Thus one end of one coil and one end of the adjacent coil are electrically connected with one and the same inetallic plate ofthe deliverer or collector. All of the coils are of course likewise coupled. The wedge-shaped cheeks of iron are partly held in position by brass plates, each of which is provided with naves upon which are suitably mounted the deliverers or collectors upon the surfaces of which rest the brushes held in position by their holders.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a side elevation showing three coils. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section of Fig. l. Fig. 3 represents a modification in which is shown a series of armature-rings mounted in pairs on one and the saine shaft, each pair of course performing the same function as that shown in Fig. l; or they may be coupled up in series, when the entire number will work as a single pair, but producing more electromotive force.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings, in whichd represents the pulley-rings; c, the softiron rings, each having the iron cheeks b and the Wooden cheeks c properly secured thereto.
e are the brass plates adapted to partly support the iron cheeks b, and carrying there- (No model.)
Ifdesirable, one armature-ring may be made to rotate while the other is fixed, or several pairs of rings may be arranged upon one axis in which they are changed with respect to their construction; but in this case the ring a', Fig. 3, would be fixed, while its mate, a", would rotate with the axis i. lf the motor or armature-ring is driven by dynamic power, and the brushes are in an exact position, au electric current will be generated, and the rings may rotate iu the same or opposite direetions.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In an electric motor, the combination of two or more pulleyrings carrying on the interior thereof a suitable number of coils of wire wound upon an iron core, one side of each core between the coils mounted with an iron cheek, the other side mounted with an insulating cheek supported by suitable means surrounding a fixed shaft and carrying a collector with brushes bearing thereon, one end of each coil separately connected with one and the same plate of the collector to which an end of the adjacent coil is connected.
2. In an electric motor, the combination, substantially as shown and described, consisting of the iron pulley-ring d, armature-ring a, coils Z, iron cheeks b, wooden cheeks c, brass plates e, naves e', metallic collector-plates f, brushes 7L, holders h', shaft t', and porters k, the whole forming a complete device.
In testimony whereof l hereunto sign my name, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this 22d day of October, lSS.
